Profound Disappointment
8/10/2010
Daly,
I think you've received excellent advice from everyone who has responded to your sincere plea for help! I will add my two cents, of course.
I felt some of the disappointment you are feeling no...
Hugh,
Glad you chose the same word to describe Open Office -- it helps me varify my experience, as well as giving me some hope for my feeble memory!
Steve
Daly,
I tried Open Office when I first got back to Mac. It felt kind of clunky, and I didn't need all the other applications. iWork, while it costs something, is reasonably priced and I like it bette...
I think it depends on what you want to use the word processor for, Daly.
I find I rarely use a word processor on my Mac -- I don't consider Scrivener a word processor, but a writing program.
If you ...
Mac: Notebook vs Notetaker
8/9/2010
Hugh,
What distinguishes VoodooPad as a personal wiki is the editor window is a full-fledged word processor. There's no need to enter "edit" mode. This is a very alluring feature. The thing I find mo...
Mac: Notebook vs Notetaker

Hugh,
I'd add MacJournal to your list of applications superior to any on the PC, despite the fact Mariner Software also sells WinJournal.

Daly,
Notebook does have internal linking. Search in help for "link to cell or page."

Mac: Notebook vs Notetaker

I agree with everything Hugh said. I have a license for Notebook, which I got early on in my Mac career. I like the concept of the notebook metaphor, but it really doesn't work for me in practice. And...

Daly,
You might find you can do with a journaling application like MacJournal. It is great for creating dated journal entries, of course, but you can also use it for all kinds of unrelated writing (f...

Addendum to the Twig post: Tinderbox/Twig do not have tagging in the usual sense, but you can create custom fields (known as attributes) and I have no doubt you can replicate tagging.

As far as I am aware, the only single-pane outliners featuring both custom columns and cloning are TAO and Tinderbox. Tinderbox is a bit pricey to be purchasing just as an outliner. But you might look...
Tao a Joke?
8/7/2010
As I mentioned in the earlier post, I haven't really warmed up to TAO -- because of the convoluted user interface -- so I can't comment on your issues. What impressed me about TAO is the way it handle...
Back to Mac

Hi, Daly,
You're where I was two years ago when I switched back to a Mac for my personal use (still on a PC at the office). Luckily from a CRIMP overload standpoint there are fewer choices on the Mac...
Well, for the MacBook let me be the first in a long list of people who will recommend the amazing Scrivener. There are many of us who switched to a Mac mostly so we could have access to Scrivener.
It...

The tagging system in MyInfo is pretty well done. Click on the "tag" tab and you get a list of all the tags in a specific topic.

PersonalKnowbase uses keywords. It's still alive, but it has been a little while since its been significantly updated. Still, it may be worth checking out.

Structured Document Editors?
7/13/2010
In theory anyway, Writer's Blocks is a fuller writing environment than SuperNoteCard, but I agree completely that SNC is the superior application at this point in time. I really appreciate what Writer...
Structured Document Editors?

FYI, I sent an e-mail today to Ashley Software, makers of Writer's Blocks, asking about the status of the program. I got this pretty quick reply:
"The new version has taken longer than we anticipated...
Structured Document Editors?

The only thing close to this for Windows that I can think of is Writers Blocks. This is an application that has been around awhile, hasn't been updated in five or six years (maybe even longer), and is...

The Journal on Bits du Jour
7/9/2010
I have yet to find the perfect writing application for Windows, which is shocking, given how many more applications are written for Windows than for Mac. MyInfo and The Journal are both excellent appl...
Welcome, Chris. That's a very good way to introduce yourself here.
I would also suggest, if you haven't already done so, that you check out Curio for Mac OS. I think Curio is a little closer to OneNo...

Information is stored in a familiar tree structure, but each of the nodes on the tree can be either a rich text note or a list....
Glenn,
Yep. I know exactly how you got into this mess!
Anyway, I'm not sure if these are what you are looking for, but I figure they are worth mentioning:
