A quick update on OutlineEdit
11/13/2015
I totally echo what Paul says.

Curio 10 now available
11/9/2015
I haven't tried it yet, but I just got a notice from Curio's developer, George Browning, that version 10 is now available. Here's what he has to say about it:

Hello, also

John,
Welcome to this forum. I think you'll find this is one of the best groups of people on the internet. Knowledgeable and glad to share experiences and advice.
Your journey through the notes/info...
Hello
11/5/2015
Glad that you joined us, Kenny. Judging by the long list of apps you've tried, you'll fit right in here. Please be sure to update us on your progress with Workflowy. I've tried using it in the past, b...
Changes re: Circus Ponies NoteBook
11/3/2015
Like Hugh, I switched to Mac partly due to the allure of CP Notebook (though Scrivener was more powerful). But I quickly found the adherence to the notebook metaphor a bit too limiting. Also like Hugh...
The crime novelist David Hewson is never one to be shy with his opinions about software for writing -- he's also very generous with his advice for writers.
He describes his new minimalist approach to...
Beginning to see the light with org-mode
10/29/2015
My response to his initial inquiry made his presentation. Unfortunately, he didn't find it very useful.
The presentation makes it clear (as have all the Org-Mode fans here), that Emacs/Org-Mode is s...
SmartDown for Mac
10/22/2015
If you're considering iAWriter, I would look at Ulysses before hand. Ulysses cost a bit more, but it is way more powerful. If you don't need an iOS version, or a full writing suite, then SmartDown sou...
It is no doubt true that Folding Text didn't sell well enough to keep Jesse's attention on it, but his next project could very well be even more difficult to make work financially, as many early-adopt...
Tons of sense here from all points of view.
Hog Bay or any other developer certainly has the right to pull the plug on an app whenever they choose. Sometimes, if they've made promises to customers th...
Wow, this is so typical of Jesse Grosjean of Hog Bay Software.
If you are a Folding Text user, you probably got the e-mail announcement about version 2.1. Though it has been a while (maybe two years)...
For the Mac there is a program called Note-C, which claims to build your note system as text files and folders on your hard drive. It looks a little rough around the edges, but if you go to the develo...
Searching attachments in TheBrain
10/8/2015
I don't use this feature, so can't comment on how well it works over time. I just ran a quick test and found that the search feature did come up with the word I searched on within an Excel file that i...
Ken,
Though the new look seemed familiar (in that it mimics other similar apps), I found it less intuitive than the old interface, so I took advantage of the "Take Me To Old Asana" feature. And I agr...
The Brain version 8 versus version 6
10/4/2015
I wrote about the changes between version 7 and version 8 here:
https://welcometosherwood.wordpress.com/2013/12/05/thebrain-8-useful-improvements/
If you use WebBrain to sync your Brains among multi...
Ariadne Organizer now on iOS
10/2/2015
... but don't rush out to get it.
I just saw that AO now has an iOS app. Just for nostalgia sake, I had to dole out the $6 for it. Wish I hadn't. It's a confusing mess. I suppose if you have been usi...
Evernote reinvents itself again
10/1/2015
Evernote has a lot of useless product tie-ins, but the one that makes me laugh is the dedicated Post-It Note "camera." Write out your Post-Its, then take photos of them with your PDA and import them i...
Evernote reinvents itself again
9/23/2015
Maybe I'm just getting old and rickety (not really, I'm only 59), but this is the part of the announcement that annoys and alarms me most:
"Beyond the fundamentals, it’ll open up new possibilit...
iPad "Surface" -- er, "Pro"
9/9/2015
That was my reaction! Although you can't run Ulysses on a Surface, and I'm really beginning to find Ulysses and iPad Air (with the Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard) a great writing instrument.
IQTell Shutting down!
8/26/2015
Just got word that IQTell is back in business. From the e-mail:
We are happy to announce that IQTell will be continuing full steam ahead!
This includes:
Committed financing for the next 2 years

Dropbox's Hackpad to be open sourced
8/25/2015
I was wondering why Dropbox bought it. Sorry they just raided its technology.
I was recently looking for the Hackpad iOS app too, Zoe, and I couldn't find it. I started wondering if I imagined that ...
Programs that search attachments?
8/24/2015
TheBrain will also search the contents of attachments, as long as the attachments are stored in TheBrain.
Steve Z.
If you're working on a Mac, look at EagleFiler:
http://c-command.com/eaglefiler/
I think it has all the attributes you're looking for.
Steve Z.
There has also been consolidation. Fetchnotes was bought out. Wunderlist was bought out. Hackpad was bought out. Don't know if that means anything.

IQTell Shutting down!
8/18/2015
I just got that message too. IQTell certainly seemed to offer some features other similar services didn't. I'm sorry they pulling the plug.
Steve Z.
