Napkin
6/12/2022
I am wondering if anyone in this forum has experience with the idea & thought collecting app Napkin. I've played around with it a little and I can't tell if it is bloody genius, or just a frivolous wa...
I have had the temerity to attempt making sense of all the types of note-taking we do in our lives with the belief (I think shared by most of you) that one note taking app doesn't cut it. So I created...

I am just going by my memory, so I might have it wrong, but I think when you sign up for a paid plan, the first month is free and you can cancel without ending up paying anything.

I feel like there should be a way to achieve a daily notes style view using the group by date created view. But this doesn't seem to work quite right. Even when I start with a new document, this view ...
Legend

A correction: When I said the only Google-centric feature of Legend is the Google Calender sync, I had forgotten about the email function, which only syncs to Gmail. I just want to make that clear.

I tried Legend two or three times before it finally connected with me. For me, it was definitely worth the effort.

OPML interop

I've been migrating my data from Dynalist to Legend by copying the OPML from Dynalist and pasting it into Legend. So far it has worked flawlessly. (Knocking on wood.)

@satis
I started this new thread so as not to hijack the security thread.
I have rarely -- at least not in recent years -- been as enthusiastic about software as I am of Legend. It has really "sync'...
I don't have enough personal sensitive documents that I have a need to put them into an online service. But the one I think I would most likely trust is Dropbox.
As far as notes and such with some s...
FastMindMap

If you want to sync your notes between computers, I think you have to use their cloud sync. But if you have no need to use Heptabase on multiple computer, then I think you can eschew the cloud.

FastMindMap

Mind maps or, more generally, diagrams need to be able to add context to be helpful to me. That is, they need to allow annotating or labeling the links, and they need to provide the ability to move th...
New app, Bike

Jesse needs to work for a company where he can be the mad-scientist genius, and someone else makes sure the product gets the constant grooming and development it needs to stick around for a while.
I 100% agree with that, Darren. Seems an odd choice for an otherwise well-designed app.

I am sure that those looking for a Scrivener replacement, much prefer an native app, and not a browser-based app. However, there are some really interesting browser-based writing apps. The two that I ...
If I did most of my work on my MacBook, I'd use Curio a lot. I think it is a fine app. Unfortunately, most of my workday is spent on a Windows PC, which excludes Curio. But I am glad to learn the app ...
xTiles does look interesting. It falls into the category of note-managers using cards and white boards. This includes Scrintal, Heptabase and Walling... and probably others. They all take a little dif...
That Alfons hasn't completely given up on the Windows version is good news. Thanks, Franz.

I agree. I have the Windows version, but it is a pale imitation of the Mac and iOS versions.

That is good news. In the recent thread about Ulysses, I almost mentioned Notebooks as an option, but decided not to because it seemed that not much was happening in development. I am happy to learn t...
Well, that is better than nothing, but in Ulysses, you can edit any of the sheets in the editor. This is very helpful when you are putting the final touches on your work and you need to smooth the tra...
By concatenating I mean that you can select multiple sheets in Ulysses and view them as if they are one document in the editor. I don't think you can do this in Inspire Writer.

Heptabase vs. Scrintal
I onboarded with Scrintal a couple of weeks ago. Scrintal and Heptabase are very similar in that they allow you to be whiteboards of documents. I think Heptabase is a little fu...
The Ulysses/Inspire Writer comparison is instructive in illuminating the differences between the Apple and Windows environments.
