How Zoot is helping me with a big project
12/31/2008
I have been tasked with a project for my office, for which I have leaned heavily on Zoot. I think it exemplifies how a good PIM can make life easier -- and highlights some of Zoot's unique strengths.

I have been using Drop Box for the past few months. I use it mostly to keep specific documents synced to the three computers I use -- one being a MacBook, and the other two desktop PCs. So far it has ...

Another program like KeyNote
12/21/2008
I have not tried Rightnote, but I am very familiar with The Journal and MyInfo -- two applications I admire. The problem with TRichedit is that it does not have standard selection modes in its editor....
Wiki for Fiction Writing

JohnK,
I know what you mean about NoteTab. There is something very enticing about its simple, plain-text interface. I often use NT for writing... usually after I've struggled to get something coheren...

Michal,
One application you didn't mention as a Windows version of Scrivener is WhizFolders. It is worth taking a look at if you haven't. It has significantly more word processing functions than Wiki...
Netbooks - Hardware CRIMP?
12/5/2008
I had my own hardware CRIMP last spring when I bought a MacBook, and I'm glad I did. While the applications themselves are not really any more sophisticated that Windows applications (with a couple of...
I would suggest that you look into MyInfo. The feature list seems to meet your needs, including global search and web capture (a new feature, which I have not yet tried):

Zoot News

Over the weekend, Tom Davis answered some questions about the upcoming Zoot version 6.0 (beta supposedly coming in January) on the Zoot Yahoo Forum. Here is what he had to say (compiled from three sep...
Ultra Recall is DEAD!
11/15/2008
The fact that development of UR has come to a standstill shouldn't necessarily deter you from using it, as long as it has the features that you want. UR is a pretty mature product, as many on this for...
Mindmapping

Speaking of mind mapping, xMind is now available open source. It is a cross-platform application (using Java). Version 3.0 has some nice features. The pay version (Pro), has a feature I have not seen ...
Another Portable Application Question

A couple of responses:
1. Debrief has a feature they call indexing, which is a form of tagging. You can assign index words to each item and then view items by index words.

Ken,
My reference to simbust was just to make the list of outliners complete. I really have no knowledge of the quality of their products, I'm afraid.
As for Debrief, I haven't had any stability pro...

Another option to take a look at might be Debrief Notes, which also can be run from a USB drive. It is a fairly fully featured application combining notes and task management. The user interface takes...

Alexander,
Cross-platform would be nice, as long as it does not entail any major compromises in UI or functionality. It surprises me, somewhat, that Microsoft has not done this with OneNote... if the...
