Affine.pro is past its growing pains..

However, Affine is clearly much further down the collaboration road than AnyType is.

Looks interesting – AnyType is trying to do something very similar in the open-source space, of course (anytype.io). After deleting the latter from my system a couple of months ago, recent ...
A critique of tagging
11/7/2023
I used to get grumpy about apps that didn't offer folders but only tags, but I have to say Bear's (and now Obsidian's) nested tags have largely changed my mind. As have the clever (Obsidian) plugins t...

I think it's good that he's changed his mind – or at least, as you say, modified his stance.
I have plenty of respect for people who are prepared to change their opinions. Much less (close...
That's an interesting idea! I've only just discovered this Local Graph thing, but I'm looking forward to experimenting with it.
Amusingly, as you probably already know, there are several different ra...
Good move! I'm always astonished at how many journalists don't appear to do that...
And the search function has indeed just appeared and can be installed as an "extension". It doesn't include indexin...
@Franz, well, you could, but it's not optimised/set up for that. It would be easy enough to create a separate folder and master page for blog posts, however – that would work very nicely. Once t...
Now, you'll tell me this doesn't have a great deal to do with outlining – but stop! It does, because static CMSes are often highly compatible with notetakers like Obsidian et al.
So there'...
Relevant to this interesting topic is, perhaps, this article in The Sweet Setup about Obsidian's Local Graph feature. The full graph of links in Obsidian isn't, as the author rightly remarks, very use...
... although I realise FoxTrot Pro isn't a note-taking app as such! Otherwise it'd have to be Obsidian with the OmniSearch plugin, which is really exceptionally good.
I would say the app that still inspires me and finds me new ideas is FoxTrot Pro, the Mac search app.
You can index anything (or exclude stuff, too), which happens at very high speed. You can then se...
You're right, I've been taking a closer look recently, and it's a clever piece of software.
But you can do exactly the same thing in Obsidian – what's more, you can put panes (showing diff...
Actually, I'd have to add Bike to the apps I actively enjoy using. I haven't found a use case that would justify my replacing e.g. Obsidian with Bike, but I'm very happy to support Bike in any case, s...
Ah yes, I used to love Noteliner (when I was a Windows user)
But with respect to multiple views on the same outline: you can in various outliners, most recently in Bike (you can open an outline in mu...
Ah. You'll find a relevant thread in the sidebar ("CRIMP defined"), but here's the link for you: https://www.outlinersoftware.com/topics/viewt/17/0/crimp-defined
Obsidian. Yes, it has its frustrating aspects (notably on mobile devices). But it's a very attractive app, pleasant to use even in its base form.
The real fun comes when you start adding plugins. I'v...

Hi folks,
Now this doesn’t have anything to do with outlining – directly. But it does have to do with information management, privacy etc. etc.
I’ve just discovered DuckDuckGo brow...
Heptabase - Crimp cured?

Thanks for that tip! Excalibrain sounds really interesting. I'm enjoying Tangent, and there are some nice ideas coming along in the near future, but I'm not anxious to move lock, stock and barrel away...
Heptabase - Crimp cured?

Although the current version of Tangent doesn't have folding (but it's coming!), it does have a great filter feature (the "Feed" filter, as opposed to the "Cards" filter) that allows you to see –...
Only downside, the text boxes don't support rich text or markdown. You could argue, so what? But I'm a bit disappointed.
However, overall it's very nice to use.

It is a one-person operation, but Taylor Hadden is very amiable and responds quickly to feedback, queries etc. It's very much a passion project, i.e. he eats his own dog food!
I'm enjoying using Tang...
It's got search! Bravo!
This looks pretty darn interesting, actually, especially the support for collaboration. Dang. I'm investigating...
The inclusion of AI in everything is definitely thought-provoking. Especially as generative AI is such an astonishingly fast-moving technology.
