About (especially "Outliner") subscriptions and the like (NOT OT here, but not at all indeed...)
12/2/2020
I confess I haven’t read 22111’s lengthy posts, nor am I very familiar with The Brain (I much prefer KnowledgeBase Builder), but the jump-thoughts concept certainly appeals to me.
The end of the Taking Note blog
12/2/2020
Yes, I discovered Taking Note comparatively recently (from this forum, I believe), and very much enjoyed Manfred’s broad range of references.
Coppice
11/30/2020
Hi Martin,
Good to see a developer in the forum! Coppice is a nice new find – I’ve been toying with it over the past couple of days. There are a few bugs (notably a rather odd one wh...
The Rise and Fall of Getting Things Done
11/27/2020
While finding the perfect time management app is, I suggested, a losing game, I’m always impressed by apps that make the effort to appeal to EVERYBODY!
Take the humble TickTick, for example. It...

Heh, love it! *Almost* sounds tempting… ;-)
Thanks for the Mark Forster link.

Roam Patrol!

@Dr Andus
Fascinating use case: yes, I have to agree that this sounds like a very valid way of using backlinks. Funnily enough, I’m finding the (identical) feature in NotePlan useful for exactl...
The Rise and Fall of Getting Things Done

Thanks for the article – I was most amused!
Yes, deciding how best to manage tasks of all kinds is definitely a losing game. Not least because there doesn’t appear to be one single system...
Roam Patrol!

It does look quite impressive. But I’m still playing with the latest version of Notion, which has added a number of interesting features (including timelines). Ah, too much CRIMPing, too little ...

Pleco looks pretty cool. It’s a shame it’s focused on Chinese, which I don’t currently have time to learn. I’m sure it could be extended to cover other languages, too!
Cheers,...
Ha, that’s quite impressive!
I still have pens, but I’m regularly frustrated to find that most of them dried up long ago and no longer work… :-(

Yes, I regularly use the dictionary in Kindle already – but Kindle doesn’t (at least, on Kindle readers it doesn’t) allow you to create your own glossaries/flash cards.

Outlinely gets a (minor) update
11/16/2020
Interesting. I’ve got a fair amount of info in Outlinely, and it’s been pretty rock-solid. But experience can vary (really quite a lot).
Has anybody taken a look at the intriguing new Cra...
Read and learn...
11/13/2020
Well, I’m sure we all aspire to read and learn, but in this case, I’m talking about an iOS/iPadOS app called “Read and Learn” (readandlearnapp.com) which is one of the best ide...
Heh, I’ll remember that, next time somebody mocks my failing memory: “mind like water,” I shall say, with an inscrutable smile...

Outlinely gets a (minor) update
11/12/2020
Yes, there is life! Perhaps the developer feels that Outlinely is as perfect as it could be?
It is a very good app, I have to admit. Perfect? Perhaps not.
In any case, the very, very, very sporadic...
InfoRapid - revisited
11/11/2020
I’ve just reinstalled the InfoRapid Knowledgebase Builder (iOS, macOS, Windows, possibly also Android?) on my Mac after buying the iOS version.
This after a lengthy search for a piece of knowle...
I follow Ken/Dr Andus’s approach, occasionally using paper for rapid drafting of thought matrices or diagrams. I also use a small paper notepad if I want to jot down something while I’m ou...
Yes, I like Mellel, but never find myself using it. Nisus I’ve looked at, but it’s big and complex and again, would I use it enough?
I did use SoftMaker quite a lot (German MS-Office alte...
Notebooks gains backlinks...
11/6/2020
So far, they’re not working very well for me. And as you say, a macOS version would be even more helpful.
But hey, it’s a great move in the right direction!
The NotePlan backlinks work e...
Ah, I see 22111 is also suggesting Excel as a back-end, albeit feeding through Jot+ – personally, I think Word would probably be more practical (not that I’ve got anything against Jot).

I think Frank’s suggestion is a good one: Scrivener (or another writing tool, such as Ulysses for macOS/iOS) can effectively add as a “copy block” editor.
But you could also use Mic...
Notebooks gains backlinks...
11/6/2020
And I’ve just had an update from Alfons to say that Notebooks 10.2 for iOS now includes improved wiki links and new backlinks.
Cool, non ?
Cheers!

Well, this backlink support in NotePlan is a bit of a game-changer. It brings it into direct competition with apps like Roam and Obsidian. And makes much more sense of the relatively high price. What&...
Dang, I hadn’t realised the latest NotePlan beta supports backlinks – but yes, it does, and does so rather intelligently (in that the backlinks appear at the top of the note rather th...
How many tags?
10/29/2020
Heh, good question. Before starting to test NotePlan 3.0 (beta), I was using tags as “folders” (NotePlan 2.0 supports nested tags).
A simple list of tags (cf. SimpleNote – mult...
