Zavala - An open source outliner for Macs, iPads, and iPhones 5/27/2024
Heh, initially I tried the Jesse Grosjean approach, copying and pasting the entire text of Moby Dick into one outline. This didn’t work, because the text was pasted as a single outline item (rat...
Zavala - An open source outliner for Macs, iPads, and iPhones 5/27/2024
I’m just about to test some longer text (so I can check out the Typewriter feature), but in the meantime, am (very) impressed by: a) the enormously improved speed of switching between outlines ...
Invasive ads 4/29/2024
Heh, Safari never showed them – just sayin’... Stephen Zeoli wrote: Hi, Chris, > >The ads I was complaining about have gone away. Thank you. > >Steve
Outliners indexing external links 4/23/2024
... and on Mac, I suspect you’d be looking primarily at EagleFiler and DEVONthink Office (or on the pure search engine front, FoxTrot Pro or even HoudahSpot).
Evernote free user limits 4/5/2024
Ah, I’m afraid AnyType is my latest fascination (in the endless CRIMPing round that is life). So far, it’s impressed me very much – a kind of personal version of Notion. Once yo...
Zavala - An open source outliner for Macs, iPads, and iPhones 4/4/2024
Sorry, Maurice, I meant to reply to your e-mail – yes, switching from one outline to another is MUCH faster! Bravo! On the other hand, backlinks are still showing a distressing tendency to...
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
Ah, sorry, I had forgotten. Yes, it does indeed store your data locally, albeit in fully encrypted format. You retain total control of your data, but it is automatically backed up to AnyType’s s...
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
Ah, I have spotted the flaw, however: AnyType keeps your data online; I’m not sure it’s possible to work on a local data file. Need to check!
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
The other advantage of AnyType is that you can move any paragraph of text (a “block” in AnyType-speak – and indeed in e.g. Craft-speak) to any other note or “object" you c...
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
Yep, just imported the entire text of Moby Dick (1.2 MB of markdown text) into an AnyType note, and barely slowed it down at all. The search function is also able to spot all 85 instances of “Mo...
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
I still have to run the “Jesse” test and see how much data any single note/outline can manage... will Moby Dick remain fast and responsive in a single note? I’ll let you know!
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
I’ve just discovered the very easy shortcut for turning any piece of AnyType text into the beginning of an outline: > + space Actually, the folding/outline function is extremely powerful &#82...
Work-Alike Alternative To Dynalist 4/3/2024
Well now, AnyType isn’t the most immediately intuitive app out there, but actually, it’s immensely powerful, and they’ve recently introduced a “toggle” feature (accessed,...
"Godspeed": New MacOS to-do app (with infinite nesting, so somewhat outlining-related) 3/22/2024
And I have to say, all these things they’re saying are unique? Not so much... Prion wrote: Looks nice but 149$ for 1.5 years?
A way to gather links to various paragraphs in various pdfs 3/19/2024
Again, do check out LiquidText, which allows you to pull together notes from multiple PDFs in a single document (PDF) consisting of notes and excerpts.
Tangent- New WYSIWYG Markdown/Wikilinks notes app with map view, sliding panels (Mac/Win) 3/18/2024
Yes, I’d have to agree
A way to gather links to various paragraphs in various pdfs 3/18/2024
Actually, I’d forgotten about LiquidText, which is also available for Windows. It uses a slightly different model from MarginNote, but does much the same thing: https://www.liquidtext.net
A way to gather links to various paragraphs in various pdfs 3/18/2024
Heh, if you were working on Mac/iPad, I’d recommend MarginNote (marginnote.com), but I’m not aware of an equivalent on Windows.
Obsidian vs Logseq conundrum 3/14/2024
It’s well worth trying Tangent on the same data repository; that works very well, and it’s much less “weighty” than Obsidian, while having some very nice knowledge management f...

treeline 2.0 3/7/2024
You’re not wrong – outliners and columns are a tricky one. A long-lost app called, I think, ListPro, originally developed for Windows Mobile (or SE or whatever Microsoft last decided ...
treeline 2.0 3/6/2024
Treeline reminds me (or vice versa) of one of the great Mac apps which unfortunately has never received the coverage it deserves: Noteship (by Rico Gundermann). The name is, perhaps, not the most insp...
Logseq for Chromebook, Android and Other Developments? 3/4/2024
Apparently Bear (as in Bear Writer, a highly popular note-taking app on MacOS/iOS) are working on a web-based version, too. This could be very interesting for those who already use Bear, and quite int...
