Collecting web pages 2.0
9/4/2014
DEVONthink has a built-in Evernote import command. The notes are imported as "formatted notes" -- which are basically HTML.
Alternative methods are available with third-party scripts -- for examp...
Collecting web pages 2.0
9/3/2014
If your goal is to import web pages as webarchives, convert on the fly to PDF, organize your collection (perhaps with tags, labels, and so forth), search your collection, and take notes -- then perhap...
Totally off-topic

Generally, I agree. There are exceptions: my MacBook Air is quiet, except when Parallels (the app that manages my Windows 8 VM) heads off on one of its mysterious fugues, and cranks up the CPU to 110...
Notability is now available for the Mac
8/28/2014
I've always enjoyed Notability and keep it on my iPad's first page because it is a pleasant app to work with. It has a good basic feature set -- or good enough for me for note taking. The new desktop...
Scribbleton - minimalist "wiki"
8/25/2014
Scribbleton. A donation-ware minimalist "wiki"-like app available on Linux, Windows, OS X. Exports to text or HTML, though IMO neither export is very useful. Text export makes a plain-text file &#...
Folia
8/22/2014
Managed to finally arrange for an account. The app (Mac App Store version) has barely any features. Type text; headings; bullets; links between documents but not hyperlinks. No export, save, or pri...

Must be some limit on new accounts -- I've attempted several times for days, with different email accounts, to get a login. The verification email never comes. There appears to be no way to test t...
Nemex is a simple Markdown-based journal -- accepts text and images. The application requires access to a web host or server -- set up is very simple.
Multiple journals ("projects") are supported, e...
Mark Bernstein emailed this video link to Tinderbox customers -- a video in which Dominique Renauld discusses his use of Tinderbox. There are several other interesting videos and articles regarding n...
DropTask has a minimal integration with Buzan's iMindMap products -- can send a task to DropTask but there doesn’t' appear to be any synchronization after the task is sent. Not sure I would con...
NovaMind Subscription
7/30/2014
NovaMind announces today a subscription model for its products, that it claims will provide access to products on OS X, Windows, Android, iPad, and "cloud" (i.e., a website-based client). Follows the...
DEVONsphere Express supports Quick Look previews - in the results list select an item, press the space bar, and a preview will open. This depends on the developer of the app that created the file to ...
Hmmm ... well, not sure I would use YouMind as an "alternative" to Curio either. Horses for courses. Just an opinion.

Not sure I would replace Curio with YouMind, though YouMind is intriguing and worth exploring. Thanks for pointing this out, @donleone.
I am attracted by the motivation of the developer(s) behind ve...
An in-depth TheBrain app-praisal !
7/11/2014
Stephen - in DEVONthink (I assume this is also true with TheBrain) if an external "indexed" file or a link is located on Mac A and Mac B at the same relative path from the root of the current volume o...
In addition to all the fine applications mentioned so far, there are two categories of app that I use constantly on my Macs. A shelf to drag clippings and files to temporarily and then drag into othe...
An in-depth TheBrain app-praisal !
7/6/2014
I use DEVONthink extensively, and I use TheBrain extensively. I suppose they both fit into a "knowledge management" -- though that category is a bit like the proverbial nailing jello to a wall.
I in...
An in-depth TheBrain app-praisal !

It's also worth mentioning the extensive tutorials and use cases on TheBrain's site -- Shelley Hayduk and Matt Catan put up new very in-depth videos almost weekly. These explain all aspects of the pr...

Thank you, @donleone -- an excellent review
A few of my favorite aspects of TheBrain

Curio 9 Released
7/1/2014
I'm glad to read that George might not invest time in an iOS Curio -- I think it would never be satisfying and divert developer attention and resources. (For the same reasons, I hope Eastgate also st...
Curio 9 Released
6/25/2014
Thank you, Mark and Steve.
I read George's posting and was a bit more confused than before. I wrote there that "... the thing I find confusing, even more so after George's helpful note, is that Pinb...
Curio 9 Released
6/24/2014
Two features of Curio 9 whose significance I am not grasping are the "album collection" and the "pinboard collection". First off, they seem to be the same thing with slight differences: floating park...
