I haven?t tried Dropbox in a purely-LAN situation, but they do support LAN sync as an optimization.
Single-pane outliners

Opal is for Mac OS X; any topic can contain styled text & graphics. It can also export to RTF ? presumably one of those is what you meant.

More Sales
8/23/2010
http://www.iappsforstudents.com/ includes my Opal outliner for 20% off, but also lots of other organizational tools for Mac. (The sale also covers iPhone, though I'm less familiar with what's on sale ...
Back to Mac

Sounds like you may be after a complex application, but if all you want is outlining, check out Opal. (And any member of this forum can contact me for a discount.)
So, what do you folks do?

Software designer -- I created Opal. Which I use to keep track of all my projects.

Be sure to include the number of panes, OS (Mac OS X, Windows, etc.). You could also mention sorting, magnification (of the window), multiple selection, and localization (e.g. is there a Japanese vers...

VMware Fusion on sale...

I think last time I posted I didn't have it. I now do. It works fine under Snow Leopard for my needs, which include DirectX 9 support.

VMWare Fusion on Bits Todau

No personal experience (I've used Parallels for the same thing), but one of my developers does use and like it. I'm confident it works as advertised.

I don't understand what you mean by this -- IMO Opal has no modes at all. You are always free to arrange (by dragging or ...
Not entirely sure what you mean by this. Opal, frex, is Spotlight searchable, so you can search multiple documents that way. Its filtering searches within a single file, showing you all relevant topic...

On the Mac, Opal imports and exports OPML as well.
It's not a perfect format though -- it doesn't really support rich text.

Interesting post here http://al3x.net/2009/01/31/against-everything-buckets.html that I suspect many of the people here won't agree with (I certainly use Opal for as much as I can, but it's not intend...
IMO the headline is a little extreme -- it's not shuttered at all: "we'll continue to maintain service for those of you who've already signed up."
Still, it's definitely a wake-up call for cloudies.
