Yes, that does look intriguing. I look forward to your update!
I believe I remember TheBrain has a pretty spiffy web export feature.
Devonthink's (very pricey) web server is nice. I am treasurer for a non-profit. Every record we've got is in a physical file cabi...
Seeking the productive life

Interesting. I'd heard some of his lifestyle before.
Funny how society can look down on practical things. His walking desk setup might look like something out of a Far Side cartoon but it's probably...
WritingOutliner revived
10/26/2022
I see by email that Edwin Yip has revived his original project, WritingOutliner, a plug-in for Microsoft Word. He had originally set WritingOutliner aside to develop DocxManager.
Now, both projects w...

Is there a plugin to allow arbitrary reordering of the notes in a folder? That's handy to be able to do.

I've started using an under-appreciated feature in Devonthink that is proving to be extremely nice. It's enough to sidetrack me from Obsidian despite the normally undeniable pathology of CRIMPing.

This forum is a time capsule

This forum isn't just a time capsule, it's a great community. I appreciate the chance to hang out here.
Any tool is what you make of it. I think of Ulysses as a bad outliner the same way I think of Word as a bad spreadsheet.
That's not what either is for.
The trap I fall into with traditional outlines...
That is indeed interesting. Maybe creative people have an extra does of pareidolia, the false recognition of familiar patterns in random noise. Faces on Mars, that sort of thing.
Maybe I should go st...
Outlining is writing in shorthand. It's not dimensionally limited unless the writer is. An outline is a map, not a prison. Dammit, Jim, I'm a writer, not a jailer. You can't hold me responsible for wh...

I wish Devonthink supported alternate UI's. For example, imagine a graph view like Obsidian.

I completely agree. Transclusion is a key feature for any knowledge system. You get context, it solves "compiling" documents for export, it slices, it dices...

Obsidian is cool. I've got it on a crash-and-burn box.
I wish the graph view had a configurable limit. I've seen situations where a document one hop from the current center is off-screen while docume...
Microsoft OneNote Changes

Onenote is Microsoft's greatest contribution to writing. I know Word is virtually the only word processor on Earth these days, but Onenote has driven a lot of organized thoughts.

Looks pretty slick. From a brief glance, might be a very worthy replacement for TheBrain.
The concept of the whiteboards adds something TheBrain doesn't have, and makes the map view carry more inform...
I think part of the problem is the Freewrite folks expect you to draft your MS on this with certain specific workflows.
My Neo was always just another general purpose tool. It carried the load when m...

TheBrain announces version 13

How is the Mac version in terms of feature parity?
I may need to look again at TheBrain. The navigation is so cool.
As of today, my employer's Teams setup includes a link for "Loop components." Apparently it puts things like lists and paragraphs into the Teams chat that any participant can edit.
Oh, goodie. Now I ...

I haven't CRIMP'd as much as I should have. I installed Obsidian on a little Windows box I have. In principle Obsidian seems awesome, but it doesn't quite suit my fancy.
