Liquid Text now for windows+mac
6/8/2020
If it's only on the Windows store -- and it appears that it is -- sales of the Windows version will be ... "modest" ... I'm guessing. Like a huge number of other users, the store never has (and proba...
Curio 14 released
5/22/2020
For me, it's one of those 'sounds better in theory than it is in practice' kind of deals.
I found its cumbersome factor way too high for its usefulness and, after a few months, I found myself asking...
It's the Universe telling you to update your system. If you're using System 7 and a PowerPC, you've got bigger problems than the lack of an outliner. Like viri and a glacially-slow internet to name ju...
Every PIM/2-pane-outliner can import text files & search them. What DevonThink can do that (not many) Windows apps can is relate disparate topics together in logical groupings, on its own using AI (al...
2019 reflection question
12/31/2019
If you suspect that you're wasting your time, you probably are.
You're also doing it wrong. That's because it's not always about "learning things", it's also using software to tell others what they ...
Looking for streamlined offline Window note taker similar to ResophNotes but with rich formatting

My go to solution -- TreePad -- is dead and unavailable for new users but the open-source Cherry Tree is still available.
IMO, it's not nearly as good as TreePad but it has the same features, includ...
Microsoft might not be an "angel" but they don't go out of their way to screw their users and, yes, Apple's denying OS upgrades to older machines and the 32-bit apocalypse says that Apple DOES go out ...
The interesting thing is that they didn't *have* to do kill 32-bit apps; Windows hasn't and probably never will. Apple did it because, you know, Apple.
Sure you can avoid upgrading to Catalina -- fo...
NOT a "very promising" web site, however. Not a single explanation of what it does or how it does it or why anyone should care.
That's not just lousy marketing, that speaks to the developer's incompe...

Causality 2.0: New Research Outliner Feature
10/21/2019
Not sure there are similar tools to the extent of this, certainly not Scrivener. Different capabilities, different audiences, different price points.
Still, this offers a free version which -- from m...
Treepad
10/3/2019
There are actually a whole lot of apps which can convert hjt files, since TreePad was the great-granddaddy of two-pane outliners. The problem -- at least my (consistent) problem -- is that TreePad's n...
CherryTree is a remarkably good outliner; (almost) as good as the (apparently) recently-departed TreePad.
Generalizations and hate like yours are not unusual on social media but they ARE (fairly) unu...
Treepad - website down or ???

Thanks so much for the link; I hadn't even considered the wayback machine but, thanks to you (and Firefox), I've got the file now.
Tried to download it with Chrome, incidently, but Google evidently t...

Treepad - website down or ???

Personally, I use TreePad Biz for (just about) all my writing needs, business and creative. It's a remarkable tool and I'm hoping that it's not gone forever.
This development caught me by surprise an...
Novellus seems much more like a dumbed-down Scrivener than a Ulysses. For me, the issue with Scrivener is its (pretty awful) publishing. Haven't used Novellus enough to asses whether it's an improveme...
Forced Upgrades
6/11/2019
In my experience, this is mostly an issue with MacOS rather than Windows. When I added a MacBook last year, I was struck by how few freeware alternatives there were and how many mom & pop developers t...
ultrawide monitors?
5/31/2019
Unless you have a need to display your work on a single monitor -- gaming or content creation -- you're probably better off with multiple monitors instead of an ultra-wide.
Personally, I'm done with the clown who was developing this piece of junk. Clearly, the developer has no idea of what they are doing and I say that as not just a victim of their programming once but ...
Fsnotes 3

Upnote for Windows actually *doesn't* have a functioning version (apparently). Try to sign up for a premium upgrade and you get a message saying 'sorry, can't do it yet'. That leaves you with a crippl...

Best outliner software for windows ?
1/3/2019
Two-pane outliners are plentiful and should do what you want. Cherry Tree, TreePad, RightNote and a bunch of others are examples.
