Outliner/PIM roll call: Fall 2012
9/27/2012
Current software:
- Mindomo for outlining and brainstorming. This is one change from last year, and it's working out very well.
- The other new tool since last year: Producteev for task management....
Evernote Not Clipping from GMail
8/24/2012
For my uses, a key advantage of forwarding to EN instead of clipping is that when you forward, email attachments are included in the created note.
Also, Mindomo has native apps for Windows, Android, and iPhone/iPad (and OSX?), and they all sync to the web version. I posted about it recently here: http://www.outlinersoftware.com/topics/viewt/406...
Mindomo
6/7/2012
I was surprised that a search on the forum turns up no mentions of this mind mapping software / website. Http://www.mindomo.com I've been using it for 2 weeks now and am very impressed.
For a while ...

Pavi,
How do you manually sync Outlook tasks?
I recently downloaded the new version of WP and was disappointed that it syncs Outlook calendar items but not outlook tasks. Also, am I correct in re...
Robert Caro's outliner
4/15/2012
Caro's system would be totally unworkable for me because of 1) its inefficiency and time requirements; and 2) its volume limitations.
First, anything that requires you to write by hand is slow. Typi...
Online or cloud-synced 2-pane outliner?
3/16/2012
Thanks Alexander. I downloaded Notecase and gave it a try.
While it did not import a word outline directly, I was able to import a Word outline into MyInfo, export to Treepad format, and import in...
Online or cloud-synced 2-pane outliner?
3/16/2012
I have recently rediscovered the usefulness of a powerful outliner for brainstorming, creating first drafts, and keeping track of discrete projects. I was a big ADM fan until it collapsed, and sense ...

Zoot XT - experiences?
1/8/2012
Do we have rich text yet? And if so, how does it handle pasting rich text from, say, a web page into Zoot? How well is formatting preserved?
To clarify about Evernote: you can actually search text of images in the offline clients. But OCRing only occurs when you sync an image to the server -- OCR happens on the server not the client. Onc...
Thanks for the tip - I've been looking for something like this.
For those wondering what the big deal is: This software does OCR of screen captures. Most screen grabbing programs just capture text ...

Qiqqa Moving Ahead

It looks like Qiqqa is positioning themselves as a "documents anywhere" provider.
I'm interested in that, because I need to read tons of documents on multiple machines. According to their webpage,...

As far as outliners with in-line text for authors, I have used Writing Outliner pretty extensively and, more recently, have used the Word 2010 built-in outliner.
Writing Outliner does not really pr...
What's the state of the art?
9/9/2011
Other than InfoQube, maybe Mindsystems Amode. It seems like the only fairly new outliner with a newer UI and lots of advanced features - and ongoing development.
We do a lot of scanning large volumes of paper in my work. We almost always just send the documents to an outside firm that specializes in document imaging. As an example, I recently was confronted ...

JB,
The cyberorganize page is a huge improvement from what we saw a week ago - I like it a lot. Focusing on a comparison with GTD is a great idea, because it lets everybody know up front what we're ...
OK, GTD.
First, GTD is a book, not a software product. Maybe that's the issue -- if your goal is to write a book, then a website is not the place to do it. Maybe a blog would be better?
But if w...
JB,
FWIW, I would never watch a video to learn about software. I suspect that a lot of users are like me: we will give your page approximately 30 seconds to convince us the software is worthwhile, o...
Software for Authors

Today it's hard to believe that I and most of my classmates used typewriters during the first of my college years -- the alternative was going to a computer lab on campus, since few students had their...
I hope they fix the performance issues. The reason I stopped using 3.1 (after paying for a full version) was that it was just too slow. Of course, maybe after 4 years (!) it would perform faster on ...
Paolo,
I found your post interesting because I think it probably explains where some of my issues with using "writing software" like Scrivener is coming from. I think maybe these programs are focuse...
