SmartDown
11/15/2014
Sorry, ignore that last few lines of the previous post. I don't seem to be able to go back and clean it up.
SmartDown
11/15/2014
I spent an hour or so with SmartDown today, and wrote this blog entry:
http://jaslarue.blogspot.com/2014/11/smartdown-markdown-editor-for-windows.html
I like it a lot. But like many of us here, I'm ...
Both of these are really excellent additions to the software. Thanks for encouraging me to take another look at it. I've also taken a look at SmartDown, which is another fascinating, small, quick litt...
Discount for RightNote
11/7/2014
I use Notecase Pro, which runs on Linux, Mac, and Windows. It's cheaper, full-featured, robust, and under significant development. I haven't used Rightnote. But what's the advantage? I assume it has o...
PC OUTLINE
10/9/2014
I used to use this. I'd like to use it again.
But I can't find the DOS download. And I always heard terrible things about the Windows version.
Is there an official link for the old file? I'm happy t...
He said in the letter that they hit their revenue goals. Sometimes I think that it's not a bad thing to write a fine piece of software and have it do all right, rather than be the next big blockbuster...
Folia
8/22/2014
Sorry, haven't actually tried this one yet. I thought the ability to read in and annotate pdfs would appeal to some of the users here - not something I do very often.

8/22/2014
I did buy the "unlock everything" version for $2.99 - a steal. I've only spent a little time with it so far, because it has one odd bug - if you're using it with a Bluetooth keyboard, you can't "save"...
Folia

From the makers of iAnnotate, Folia is an enhanced word processor. According to the developers, "We’ve explicitly designed Folia to move beyond these [traditional word pro...

Good find, and most interesting. I'll take a look at it. Has anyone else?
Online (Cloud) Outliners
8/21/2014
I don't know how common my experience is. But in the course of a day, I move from Windows to Mac to iPad to Android. Outliners (and to a lesser extent, mind maps) really capture the way I think. Inevi...
Online (Cloud) Outliners
8/19/2014
Just a few you haven't mentioned.
http://sproutliner.com/ - multi-column, but not a writing tool.
http://www.tidylines.com OK, but no word count, and can't find a way to save on that site.
http://...
Mynotex

https://sites.google.com/site/mynotex/
A Linux note program, NOT cloud based, that combines notes with some project managements twists, good formatting and linking, file links, tags, search, and good...
Scrivener for Linux
7/23/2014
I just downloaded and installed the .deb file for the 64 bit version of Scrivener. That meant it was a one-click install on my Ubuntu box. This version is 1.7.2.3, and appears to be free until January...
Noguchi Filing System
6/21/2014
A low tech way to manage projects I thought some of the folks here might enjoy.

Freeplane - new release
6/13/2014
May I ask why you've decided to go with Freeplane as your outliner of choice?
I used to use it a lot, then kind of drifted away from it. I'd missed the whole "outliner" mode, which looks pretty good ...
Oh, and Planz is Windows based.
Not sure if this was quite what you were looking for. It's called Planz - http://kftf.ischool.washington.edu/planner_index.htm
From their website: Link your thoughts to files, Web pages, and email me...
Workflowy: Your Brain on One Page
4/21/2014
Yes, I think this one really is a feature, not a bug. I find that I work with enough different outliners, and store things in just enough places, that sometimes it's hard to track down just which tool...
Interesting. I had never thought of using a content management system as my operating environment. On the one hand, that would seem to make for an all-in-one solution. That is indeed an impressive lis...
MindMup - New mind map app
4/4/2014
I used it almost every day for about a month. Then, as so often happens, I wandered off to text again. Workflowy seems to suit the projects I'm working on these days. Yes, the formatting was in the "a...
Windows RT suggestions?
3/31/2014
Ah RT. Missed that.
Thanks, I missed this one. Outliner Pro is pretty good, but not for rapid fire inputting. And the other one pane Android app I looked at (NoteLynx) somehow didn't work for me. This one has limited exp...
Outlinely (for Mac)
3/31/2014
Thanks for this. $5 is a small price to pay to encourage work like this. Recently, I've started picking up an old MacBook for coffee shop computing, and this is just the kind of quick, non-wifi depend...
Windows RT suggestions?
3/31/2014
Franz, I've used Freeplane and Xmind on Windows, both free, both bristling with features, and different enough from each other that I think you'll find them a good introduction to the genre.
