I don't think textBEAST saves any metadata.
"The idea of a ready-and-waiting inbox sounds very interesting, but I can see a certain conflict with my current setup: Ctrl-F12 is used in Surfulater to create a new folder, and cannot be re-assigned...
I was wrong about having to open textBEAST first before you can copy anything. Should have read the documentation more thoroughly.
textBEAST is a really nice app. It has its own clipboard so everyth...
textBEAST looks good and a lot of people would probably find it useful, but I don't like the fact that you have to open the application and select where you want your clipped text to go before you cop...
Noticed this is on sale at Bits DuJour today. I've never heard of the app before, but it looks like it might be useful.
Has anyone used it?
The only truly indispensable information-management program I own would be OneNote. I've been using it for years to store information I need to save long-term and have built up some massive notebooks....
Personally, I've never been able to find a use for Personal Brain. It slows to a crawl if you put a lot of text and images in the notes, so you can't use it as a full-blown personal information manage...
"Note that BrainStormWFO ?auto-hoists?. This means that you are always focused on just one layer of the outline."
This was the one feature of Brainstorm that I didn't like and it ended up aggravating...

I wasn't aware of this until just now, but Word has a version control feature which could be very useful in combination with Track Changes. The version control lets you save and revert to various vers...

I've had a lot of trouble with this myself and have come up with some possible solutions.
One method you can use to avoid this proliferation of files is to just maintain two files per project: a WORK...
It does look like they've improved it considerably, but I agree about the price.
I just downloaded the trial version, so I don't know how many keyboard shortcuts are available. As far as I'm concerne...

"...I keep waiting for someone to chime in by saying they prefer a goose quill and parchment; or, better yet, stone tablets and chisels."
Don't laugh. People still write with goose quills and they're...

Graham,
There are still a lot of typewriter stores in business, usually run by ancient codger typewriter mechanics who have been in business for centuries and are still holding out. They can supply y...
CRIMP is a form of compulsive buying disorder. I've had it for years.
"Compulsive buying disorder (CBD) is characterized by excessive shopping cognitions and buying behavior that leads to distress or...
Software for Authors

I'm amazed at how many writers (primarily fiction writers) end up looking for minimalistic, "distraction free," full-screen word processors like Dark Room or Zen (is that what it's called?) and even d...

Just out of curiosity, why does your son have to submit each chapter as a separate file? I'm a fiction writer myself with an agent and I've never heard of a requirement like this. The only reason I ca...
Does GoalEnforcer have keyboard shortcuts for everything?
You don't need software to enter a timestamp. Just dictate the date and time at the beginning of each recording.
I just tried transcribing a nine-minute file from my Olympus DS5000 voice recorder (us...

I like fountain pens, too. Smoothest writing instruments ever invented and nothing focuses your attention like writing longhand with a fountain pen.
I've got several fountain pens, but my favorites r...
There's nothing wrong with writing your first drafts longhand. Lots of successful professional writers work this way. Elmore Leonard, for instance, writes his first drafts on yellow legal pads and he'...

I like the Goalscape interface and it looks like a solid program.
The deal-killer for me, though, was the lack of keyboard shortcuts. Having to constantly switch back and forth between the mouse and ...

The main problem I found with using Personal Brain as a PIM is that it can't handle large quantities of text in the notes. If you create a few dozen thoughts with lots of text in the notes, the Brain ...
CintaNotes out of beta

CintaNotes is a fantastic application. Minimalistic. Stays hidden if you want it to. You can enter a fast note with a keyboard shortcut, copy text to a note with another shortcut. You never have to to...
Summer 2009 PIM roll-call

After downloading, installing, evaluating and sometimes buying almost every PIM and outliner ever created, I really only use OneNote 2007 any more. I use it as a permanent archive for information that...

"In answer to another question, both draft mode and normal mode exist in both the 2003 and 2007 versions."
Draft mode IS normal mode, isn't it? I can't find anything called draft mode in 2003.
