Notion 10/4/2017
Anyone tried Notion? An interesting new(?) app that does docs, wikis, to-do lists, etc. I find the iOS app very difficult to use and the instructions are all based on using a keyboard, but the whole i...
Text manipulation: TextSoap; Typinator; Kebyoard Maestro 10/2/2017
Alfred is highly scriptable and can interact with other apps. You do need to pay extra to turn on the workflow functionality, but it’s worth it.

Sounds like Ulysses might be good for you? https://ulyssesapp.com/
Workflowy: New Programmer and Plans for Mobile 9/29/2017
Workflowy announced a new programmer: https://blog.workflowy.com/2017/09/27/welcome-jacob-green-to-the-workflowy-team/ And, at the end of this post: https://blog.workflowy.com/2017/09/28/moving-bul...
Ulysses, infected by a trendy virus, changes to all-Subscription model 8/11/2017
One result of apps going towards subscription models is that whereas before I would have kept them on my desktop and used them occasionally, now I just delete them, because they are generally useless ...
Ulysses, infected by a trendy virus, changes to all-Subscription model 8/11/2017
I too found the Ulysses app post with its comparison to the price of coffee quite offensive. However, I found this Medium post by one of the developers to be much more thoughtful: https://medium.com/...
NVIVO vs Devonthink 8/6/2017
Outlinely can search for tags across documents using the "search and navigate window." Dynalist can search in a single document or across documents. Workflowy does not require you to separate outlines...
NVIVO vs Devonthink 8/6/2017
Very strange. MarginNote only supports the proprietary Omni Outliner format, not the open OPML format supported by many other apps. Seems easier to use an outliner that exports as plain text than this...
NVIVO vs Devonthink 8/6/2017
It looks like MarginNote can even export into OPML format, which would simplify the whole process?
NVIVO vs Devonthink 8/6/2017
As I stated earlier, while Bear and other text editors only allow you to attach tags to individual documents, outliner software such as Worfklowy, Dynalist, Outlinely, and Mudu all allow you to attach...
Onenote Mac now has the separate windows 7/30/2017
Also worth mentioning that the latest update to Bear includes opening notes in separate windows on the desktop app.
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/28/2017
Censorship is a very valid concern, as I mentioned earlier. I don't blame anyone for staying clear of mubu for this reason. For those who do wish to make use of the app, however, I think it shouldn't ...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/28/2017
I recently downloaded and installed the macOS app for mubu. While it doesn't have any encoding issues as reported for the Windows version, I find that it isn't as full featured as the web version. I w...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/25/2017
I haven't tried mindmaps on iOS and use the web app, so I can't compare. But for the features I use it has been very stable and I've have had no encoding issues.
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/25/2017
Actually Dynalist is working on mindmap: https://trello.com/c/uhHmsldR/63-pro-mind-map-view-alpha-early-access http://blog.dynalist.io/clone/ However, personally I don't use mindmaps or care about t...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/25/2017
Someone I know wrote and asked for English support to which the developers wrote back saying they have no plans to offer that. I find this quite surprising, but I guess it is a sign of how big the Chi...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/24/2017
As my friend thought - I had bought some apps over the weekend and Apple charged them all together on the same bill. Sorry about the confusion there. The app charged exactly what it said. (I bought it...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/24/2017
After using MuBu a bit I find it actually has taken quite a bit from Dynalist (just as Dynalist took a lot from Workflowy when they started). You can add colors, tags, headings, and basic formatting. ...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/24/2017
Someone pointed out to me that the charge might include other purchases I made - AmEx doesn't make it clear. So please ignore the part about getting charged extra until I am able to get the receipt f...
MuBu 幕布 Outliner 7/24/2017
I just stumbled upon a fantastic outliner that has many similarities to Workflowy, Outlinely, and Dynalist. While it lacks many of the bells and whistles of Dynalist, it has a wonderful native iOS app...
TickTick steadily improves 7/19/2017
I was impressed with it when I was checking out apps before settling on 2Do. I see that the latest version adds "duration" with start and end dates, but this feature is only for premium users. Also, i...
ScribblePost might suit some people 7/19/2017
I had tried the beta long time ago, but I see it has improved a lot since then. Still, I find it frustrating how many task managers fail to have separate start dates and due dates...
Dynalist - formerly Omniflow, an alternative to WorkFlowy 7/11/2017
Thanks for the heads up. I paid for one year. Right now I’m on the fence. For me Outlinely is better on iOS, but Dynalist is better on the desktop. Right now I'm subscribed to both and I'll see ...
NVIVO vs Devonthink 7/10/2017
OK, I was able to test this just now. While pro is required to see a list of keywords across all documents, you do not need pro to search keywords across documents. Luhmann wrote: And if you get Dyn...
NVIVO vs Devonthink 7/10/2017
And if you get Dynalist pro I think you can see keywords across files, but I don't have pro so I can't test it out...
