Looks like Gunnar Sommestad is updating The Literary Machine again after quite a long quiet spell….

http://www.literarymachine.com/—> Click on the “New Development 2013” link.  Alternatively, a beta of the updated version can be found at http://www.literarymachine.com/dnl2013/lm2013_setup.zip

It’s association-based relation engine is certainly interesting at a minimum.  After an initial path emphasizing use as a writing tool leveraging collected and related items (Pro version), it evolved into a PIM version and then went silent for a number of years.  The new version being worked provides an updated UI if nothing else.  Both the current version (LM2007) and the beta for the update are free.  No mention of what the pricing/cost for the updated version will eventually be.

Gunnar is looking for input from users on feature requests for the new version if anyone is willing to dig in a learn how to use it - it seems a bit of time investment is required to get one’s head around it…..

Wow. That’s a blast from the past. I was always intrigued by LM, but could never really figure out how to use it in any way that helped me write or work. I assumed there was a theory behind its design and function that I just didn’t get. Nevertheless, it is nice to see that it may have life, even if it is not a tool I would use. Thanks for the update.

I have no time to test it (play with it) now, but I admit I was intrigued by this statement at the site: “LM offers the best of both worlds, allowing you to use both a networked and a hierarchical organization scheme for categorizing information.”
