Sorry for the off topic question, but I don’t know anyone I trust more than this group when it comes to this kind of thing. The organization I work for needs an easy-to-use system for sharing documents and large video files. Someone recommended High Tail, and I’m wondering if any of you have used it, and if so, what do you think?

Thank you!

Hightail was called Yousendit until very recently. It is probably the first service offered for sending large files that email couldn’t handle conveniently, and as such I’ve used it extensively and still rely on it.

It has apparently lost a lot of market to Dropbox and the like, and its recent relaunch as Hightail with additional services is an effort to gain some ground back. Don’t ask me why Hightail is supposed to be more attractive than Yousendit.

For a (permanent) file sharing service I find it quite expensive. Depending on what you want to do, as well as the size of the group, other solutions may be more convenient and a lot cheaper, e.g.:

- Bittorrent Sync (peer-to-peer solution, no cloud involved)

- Connected Data’s Transporter, mentioned here http://www.outlinersoftware.com/topics/viewt/5049/5

- Livedrive.com or even Amazon S3 with a commercial interface

I’d agree with Alexander. Bittorrent Sync is brilliant, and increasingly multiplatform - well worth investigating. Other options include Soonr.com (for business interactions - a kind of heavily encrypted Dropbox), Samepage.io (also mentioned elsewhere) and two competing systems: Pogo (designers of the PogoPlug) and Tonido. Both systems work fairly well, depending on what you want to do. Pogo has the advantage of offering unlimited storage, and appears to be gaining traction.

You may also want to have alook at box.com .  I am not sure of your exact requirements, but they are growing and offering new and enhanced services.  I use them for sharing image files because they initially gave me a free 50GB account.  To date, I have not had any issues with them, but I am a light user.

Good luck,

—Ken
