You could also use Standard Notes, which is what I currently use. The free version is an upgrade from Simplenote, and there's also a paid version with more advanced features. It appears at first glance that UpNote has much more restrictive limits on the free version.
(It's perhaps worth noting, by the way, that both the UpNote and the Standard Notes web clippers for Chrome require full access to your browsing but currently lack the "Featured" badge. Generally, I only use full-access extensions if they have the badge, although if one trusts the company then I guess it's probably fine.)
