Typora has finally (!) exited beta status, and is now a buyable app. For a very modest $15!

It’s genuinely cross-platform (macOS, Windows, Windows ARM and Linux), and is for my money one of the most elegant markdown editors out there.

No, it doesn’t have mobile apps – that’s because you can turn any set of folders into a Typora library, so you can use your preferred Markdown editor on your mobile platform, provided it writes to a set of folders you can sync with your desktop.

It has one of the best search engines of any text editor (very fast, with results shown by filename with every single occurrence of the search term in the file listed with a short extract and highlighted search term). So good is the search engine that for my money, it obviates the need for tags.

And it takes a very sensible approach to file viewing. You can view files as a standard folder/file list, as a list of “articles” (= straight list of files showing short extract for each file), or you can switch from that into table of contents (outline) mode for the file you’re currently looking at.

It also allows you to open files in multiple windows.

In short, very nice piece of software – I totally recommend as an excellent alternative to all those nice but expensive writing apps out there.
