Hightail was called Yousendit until very recently. It is probably the first service offered for sending large files that email couldn’t handle conveniently, and as such I’ve used it extensively and still rely on it.

It has apparently lost a lot of market to Dropbox and the like, and its recent relaunch as Hightail with additional services is an effort to gain some ground back. Don’t ask me why Hightail is supposed to be more attractive than Yousendit.

For a (permanent) file sharing service I find it quite expensive. Depending on what you want to do, as well as the size of the group, other solutions may be more convenient and a lot cheaper, e.g.:

- Bittorrent Sync (peer-to-peer solution, no cloud involved)

- Connected Data’s Transporter, mentioned here http://www.outlinersoftware.com/topics/viewt/5049/5

- Livedrive.com or even Amazon S3 with a commercial interface
