To reply to myself,and Daly, I now have ADM working with txt and PDFs, and I suspect that since it is usng Acrobat to view the PDFs, it will probably use Word to view the Word files - and I don’t have Word installed.

And indeed you can arrow key up and down the outline with the appropriate documents opening.

I have to say I rather like it, but it stiil isn’t really as good as AskSam for this specific task. As I said earlier I wouldn’t choose AskSam as an information managent program but it does have a lot goig for it in this case.
