It seems that Google does not have a monopoly on confusing its customers with its product versions and names - https://youtu.be/4IkUfh05TGE .  Hopefully they chose to keep the right version and will make sure it is compatible with the web-based version.

This is a very clear—and very reassuring!—explanation of what is happening to my co-favorite app (the other is Excel).  I have been very worried about the future of OneNote and have been unable to find a clear explanation of what is happening to it.  Thanks for posting this.  I hope others find it useful.

I use OneNote 2016, but have tried to avoid it because I hate OneNote for Windows 10 and felt that was the direction Microsoft was going. This video is indeed very reassuring. Thank you for directing our attention to it.

Glad this was helpful.  I am still not sure how they will resolve the we-based version with the desktop as far as file compatibility, but I do hope it works out well.  I do nt really use OneNote, but since it is in our portfolio of work applications, it is nice to know what they are up to in case I do want to use it.

Onenote is Microsoft’s greatest contribution to writing. I know Word is virtually the only word processor on Earth these days, but Onenote has driven a lot of organized thoughts.

Ever the rebel, it’s not for me.

I think the reason I drifted away from Onenote was because TheBrain introduced me to a more fluid model of linking.
