Sorry, @Smithers, just seen this.
Similar apps include e.g. Summuray, Highlights, Caleo, OnlineObjects (primarily for web), MarginNote, LiquidText, PDF Master by Diigo (and that’s just off the top of my head).
Best known/most respected are probably Highlights, MarginNote, LiquidText.

It’s been years now, but just thought I should update this in case people didn’t know. The developer(s) one day just up and disappeared, leaving people with locked-in highlights and notes. This after a dick move shortly before where notes and highlights that were included in the free plan initially were just disabled for the free tier withhout prior notice leaving users unable to access their annotations and highlights.
