Any other outliner that works nicely with HDD folders?

Hi!
I wonder if there is an outliner that allows HDD folders to be part of the notes structure/tree in such a way that when files change in the HDD folder, the changes are reflected in the outliner’s notes structure as well.
I know that Ultra Recall does it (File/Import folder/...Don’t import files). I know that MyBase does not do it (it can capture folder creating links to the files, but any further changes in the folder are not reflected in the database). I don’t know about InfoQube yet. I would love to see how anybody else does it… that is if there is any other software that does it.
Any idea, pls?
:-)

Have not tried this with InfoQube, but it is capable of doing almost anything.

RightNote does this with the added benefit of indexing several common file types (docx, xlsx, pdf). TreePad also did this, but as it is discontinued, you have to have access to a copy. No indexing though. Finally, InfoSelect also does this with no indexing.

Thank you for your reply, J!

re: RightNote
even with indexing? Wow, very cool! Sadly for me, RN does not support symbolic links, so I won’t be able to use it, but good to know.

BTW I have learned, that InfoQube currently does not support this feature, but it might be added should enough people show interest. A very interesting discussion on the topic can be found here: http://infoqubeim.com/drupal5/node/5125#comment-24674

Sounds like you’re using Windows, Karel? If so, you could also look at Notebooks (first developed for iOS, then macOS, but also available for Windows), which has a totally transparent folder/notes structure based on the file system. You can also store more or less any kind of file in Notebooks, including images, PDFs, MS-Office files, etc. etc. Notebooks will update itself in real time, and you can also drag and drop files/folders from Explorer/Finder directly into Notebooks and vice versa.

A lot of apps developed for macOS rely on the file system for storage (e.g. NotePlan, Noteship), and there are other more recent developments (Obsidian, I believe?) that do the same across multiple platforms. A good place to look would be alternativeto.net

Cheers,
Bill

Notebooks is great and Alfons is an extremely capable developer, but development for the Windows version is … slow … to be kind. Notebooks has so much potential as a front end for just about everything I try to lasso on my computer. I truly love the way it works, how it helps, and how it gets out of the way. But a big update is long overdue.
