The latest reincarnation of the Gingko concept and service:

https://app.gingkowriter.com/signup

There was an email to current users that says:

>Gingko App has a completely new version, a new name (Gingko Writer), and a new home, at gingkowriter.com.

>We’ll eventually be moving to that version, and shutting down the old one at gingkoapp.com, but not yet.

>A full document history that you can navigate easily, means you can make major changes without fear. Just do what feels right, and if it doesn’t work out, slide back, restore, and try again. All automatically without having to “Save As” every time you want to try a new arrangement.

> With the “Quick Switcher” you can jump back and forth between your trees in seconds. You can quickly pop into your “Random ideas” tree, add a card, and then jump back to your current “Work log” tree-journal, without breaking your flow.

>Higher contrast, less visual noise, and bolder colors.

>Snappier scrolling, zooming, and moving through your work.

>Per-Document Color Schemes: Apart from being a fun customization, setting different color schemes for different documents lets you see at a glance which project you’re working on.

>You can keep your subscription unchanged if you’re contributing 5$ or more per month. If you’re paying less, you’ll eventually have to subscribe at at least that amount or more to keep using the new version.

I purchased the desktop app almost three years ago, but was disappointed by the sluggish development, the bifurcation with the online service (with no ability to share files between the two), and the lack of regular or meaningful updates, info or social presence of the developer. And, despite having been I think one of the first purchasers of the desktop app (which I never came to trust, and therefore never used), I never received this email.

So, I do not think I will be taking a chance on this latest incarnation. It’s too bad, because the design has potential for writers. Given this dev’s history with this app/service I just am not convinced that I want to depend on him to support a writing app for important work of mine.

Heh, Gingko Writer is back! Adriano’s been hard at work behind the scenes and has rewritten it from scratch:

“Hi there!
Because your time is precious, here’s a quick summary:
Gingko Writer is the new version of Gingko App, the software that helps you stay in the writing flow by making it easy to rearrange your ideas.
It’s already helped thousands of writers, from graduate students to best-selling authors, and it’s only gotten better with this new release.”

Having said which, it’s still a work in progress. But it’s better than it was (I’ve just been playing with desktop version 2.4.15), which has a nice search function.

The website is at https://gingkowriter.com – he’s clearly spending most of his time on the new web version.
