I used MindNode for a while. It has an outline mode, but it has the look of an afterthought.

I use MindNode mainly because it’s dead simple and has color-coded tags. But since 2014 iThoughts has offered real-time edits between itself and Marked2, where Marked2 shows outline previews of mindmaps (which can then be saved out in different formats). MindNode later gained a somewhat more convoluted ability to do the same thing (last time I tried it you needed to manually implement sync) but the iThoughts implementation is better.

And iThoughts has fishbone diagrams, which I tend to prefer.

So Omni has just moved OmniOutliner, and all its apps, to subscription pricing.

OmniOutliner is now available for one price to unlock on Mac/iPhone/iPad, for US $4.99/month, or $49.99/year.

As someone who’d purchased the software before it jumped in price a year ago (I think Mac/iOS Pro-unlock was $70 before Omni hiked it to $150), I’m not sure how I feel about this. OmniOutliner seems more like a decision to implement me-too pricing to its other products, as the big news today was actually the introduction of OmniPlan 4, and its subscription model.

The upgrade from OmniPlan 2 Pro to 3 Pro cost me $84.99. An upgrade to 4 Pro would cost me $199. Ouch!

There *might* be a discount available. I don’t own OmniPlan but at https://store.omnigroup.com/omniplan there’s the link “Register your license to receive discounts”

Otherwise yes, v.4 is either $200 for the ‘traditional’ standard version ($400 for Pro) or $200/year for an unlocked Mac/iPad/iPhone subscription.

I’m good with OmniOutliner, since there’s no new version and no reason to choose to switch to a subscription.
