Alfons Schmid’s Notebooks app version 10 has finally been released.

Lots of new features and improvements.  One intriguing feature is that Notebooks is now integrated with the iOS/iPadOS Files app and Notebooks can be used as an editor for documents stored in Files without first importing the document into Notebooks.

I had pre-ordered, so the app has arrived on my devices today. I’m a little underwhelmed by the changes. Most of them bring the app into line with the features that had been established in Notebooks 2 for Mac. I was hoping for something more? Not sure what exactly, but that’s my initial feeling.

To be honest I bought it more to support the developer rather than it filling a hole in my workflow.

I typically use DEVONthink for archival storage and have recently been using Noteplan (or Agenda) for daily notes.

I’ve gone so far as to reinstall Dropbox on my Macs to see if I can make a go of Notebooks. This was after I had futzed around with WebDAV - both local and through Fastmail - before deciding it was creating more problems than it was solving. Again, DEVONthink/NotePlan/Agenda have syncing sorted out without Dropbox, so not sure what I’m gaining, other than software bloat with the latest Dropbox clients.

I look forward to other people’s take on Notebooks - and am always interested in how it is incorporated into workflows.

Just purchased. A little rough around the edges but nothing to scare me off. I deleted the previous Notebooks from my iPhone then launched the app. It immediately asked if I wanted to use the files from Notebooks 8, and I figured why not see if anything’s there, and…. CRASH. Every time. So I stopped trying that and the app continued afresh. But some Settings don’t stick after being saved, or rather, you need to choose them several times before they get properly saved.

Yeah, I got that too.  The app does look better though.  I wish the mac app looked like it does on ios.  Still, there’s no other app out there that lets you store, and live edit html files of any shape and size.
