Okay, I'm dying to try out the new Devonthink. My heart says do it but my brain says it's still in beta. Anybody actually lose data using the beta?

I've posted elsewhere that I've used the DEVONthink 3 alphas and betas (pre-public and public) for several years -- yes it was a very long development cycle. I have never lost any data in DEVONthink 3 or DEVONthink 2 or DEVONthink 1. I transferred all my databases to DEVONthink 3 six months ago and have never looked back. I use DEVONthink 8 to 12 hours a day, every day.

A fellow in the product forum had a case where he said he lost file when they were imported -- the resolution was never posted, but it appeared to me to be a case of user error. That said, it is a beta. Use it judiciously and maintain backups. Report issues to DEVONtechnologies Support.

I don't use betas. I'll usually wait until version x.2 comes out, but I salute the brave, itchy-fingered redshirts who go before me to clear the way and take one for the team in the name of impulsivity! ;)

So far it has been rock solid for me.

There are a lot of nice features, with custom metadata being my favorite.

But if you decide to jump in, do as Korm recommends and be careful.

It's been fine for me. Bugs and data loss have been less of a challenge than getting my head around changes in workflow.

But - backup backup backup. And don't run DT 2 and 2 alongside each other.

Oh, and BTW, DT3 syncs fine with DTTG

I agree with what Paul Korm, NickG and Captain CowPie have written above.

Thanks to all, especially Paul for the info. I'm gonna do it today. :-)
