Just found out—and can’t remember whether it has been noted here—that the Inspiration folks have a new web-based mind map and outline tool. I have just signed up so cannot recommend. However, follow the link below for a review and link to Webspiration.

No hoist (or “focus-in,” as Inspiration call it).

Stephen, I had noted that also—yet what attracts me to this program is that for a web-based mind mapper—or a web-based outliner—it seems advanced of anything I have seen yet in either category. I think it will be interesting to see how they move it along, and what the ultimate cost will be to users once out of the beta period.

I join you in stressing to any developers who read this site to note how important a hoist mechanism is to people who work with outlines a lot. Not having this feature is a shortcut that will ultimately cost you customers. It’s not as though we’re back in the 20th century—which did manage to produce one of the all time great outliners in Grandview.

Hmm, I work with outlines a lot, and I think I’ve only used that feature once, maybe twice.

On the other hand, as a developer I did add Focus to Opal. And I heartily discourage other developers from adding this. I’ve got enough competition as it is. Go add, um, I can’t think of anything utterly useless.
