I just wanted to let everyone know about this website that allows you to catalog all kinds of books that you have ever owned or read. You can add your own tags.

The website is http://www.librarything.com

Their paid membership is about $25/- but when you go to purchase it I believe they offer an option from $19/- to $25/-. I think it works great and you can tag books that you have lent out and the visually stunning part of it is being able to view all your books with their covers in a list that I believe can be exported to excel as well.

I am a user not in anyway affiliated with the website other than using it and being a lifetime member.

Also,
Here’s what I did which may help you.

I downloaded another software called libra (FREE~!!!!) which allowed me to scan the barcodes of my books using my creative live! ultra webcam.
If you have a lower quality webcam, i would suggest googling to scour for other users opinions. Also, FYI it’s a little tedious with the webcam but it’s exciting. I think I took about 3-5 hours for about 300 books.

Just a Note on information management software market: It’s like Walmart, u get all kinds of stuff, but u don’t get the best stuff you would get at bed, bath & beyond. Hence, it’s always going to be a different software/resource for different kinds of needs. .... Now, just to narrow down onto that 1 research tool that combines all kinds of features…the hunt goes on…
