Some on this list will be interested in this podcast interview with the CEO of EverNote. EverNote has a lot of ambitions for its latest incarnation, now in beta, and it touches on many of the issues of interest to people here.

The blurb for the podcast says EverNote is “a company that aims to build the memex, or personal outboard memory, that Vannevar Bush famously imagined in his 1945 article ‘As We May Think.’”

I didn’t listen to the podcast, but I did work my way over to the new Evernote web site. It is kind of stunning to see how different the Mac version of Evernote is from the PC version. The thumbnail view of notes looks very helpful. Is EVERYTHING better on the Mac?!

Not everything, but many of the things that matter… ;)

BTW, if you’re interested in that kind of view, the thumbnail view in Mac Evernote seems inspired by a pair of applications called Yep and Leap. I do find this kind of interface useful for rapid recognition… for instance I keep my web bookmarks in Leap and even though they’re all tagged, having large variable size thumbnails rather than fixed icons helps jog the memory about the content of a web page. Leap uses the system QuickLook engine to generate the variable thumbnails, so it supports most filetypes.
