HelpSmith is free today at GAOTD. It seems like a decent 2-pane outliner, capable of generating help files. I’ll download it and give a more detailed report later on.

After trying it out a bit, looks positive.

Good editor, fast, stable. Not very automated, so could be used for other than help authoring but may not be as productive for producing help files.

All in all a decent 2-pane outliner

PPL,

Thanks for the heads-up.

Can you confirm that this is the latest verion (1.3 - rel.2008-01-28)?

Also, wondering does the software need to be registered within the same time frame as the give away period.

Also, any experience with install/active to one machine, then move to another. Seems that some of these give aways are particular.

Yes, I believe it does.

I think you need to activate it separately on both machines. I’ve done this successfully before.

Does the separate activation need to be done within the give-away time period, or once an activation key is obtained can additional install/activate be done outside of this time frame?

I guess what I’m asking is the activation key specific to the machine, or does it run with the software (if obtained within the give away time frame).

Or does it depend on the vendor?

Thanks.
