Hmmm…. well….

Thanks for the link Jon.  I downloaded this exe and it is an installer.  I installed it.  That linked webpage says it is portable, so I copied the whole folder to a flash drive and tried to run it from there.  It appears to work.

BUT ...  when running the program the very first thing it requires is a sign in.  So I had to create and account.  I did that.  Yay, I can now use the software.  However I note that “premium features are available (15 days)”  (it says so in the title bar).  And I note that they sent me an email saying I could test all the program features for 45 days.

So is it true that “The free version has full standalone functionality - no crippled features, time/trial limitations, etc. ” ?  It does not appear to have offline / standalone functionality (it requires me to sign in before even using it) and it does appear to be time limited in some way.

All that said, it does appear to be very powerful, with task hierarchy, calendar, attachments, assignment, complex filtering, and several types of categorization (categories, labels, “marker”, status). I’d be interested to see English documentation or manual if such exists. I couldn’t find any

You have now confirmed what I was hoping would not be true.  I had hoped that this new release would not require registration, and more importantly, was hoping that there was a help file included with the download.  IMHO, it would do them wonders if they could just clean up this cluttered tangle of web sites, links and registration forms and just focus on a stand-alone execution copy of the program with some adequate help documentation.

I understand the confusion. Signing up/in is optional. You can dismiss the dialogue and proceed to use LeaderTask locally. It is free to use in this manner.

I sound like a supporter of the software, but I actually don’t like it much. Thing is, we should get our facts straight, then decide if the product suits us. For me, it does not.

This is good to know.  And I agree that we should make our decisions based on correct information.  And FWIW, I do not believe being a supporter of a product in this forum is an automatic cause for concern.  Given the tenor of most of our discussions, we seem to do a good job of staying away from fanatical cheerleading.

I went to http://www.leadertask.com/en/
I saw no reference to v10+ being “free” in the manner indicated in this discussion thread, but downloaded it in good faith nevertheless, and, sure enough, when I executed the proggie, it required account registration, and that initial sign-on page would not let me pass without a registered account being set up.

The thing is, I don’t want to be locked in to an online registered service in order to use the software. I want to be able to use it offline or online without signing on to anything. In that regard, this software is redolent of the odious lock-in marketing practices of Evernote. Thus, for me, LeaderTask installation would seem to have been a waste of time.
In any event, the software has now been expunged from my laptop’s hard drive, without my knowing whether it was any good or had potential to be useful.
Pity.  Score is nought out of 10.
