Curio Express & Curio Reader

Zengobi—developer of Curio for OS X—announced “Curio Express” and “Curio Reader”.  Curio documents usually have multiple sections, folders, and “idea spaces” (canvases) plus several project management features.  It looks as though Curio Express provides a single idea space (canvas) per document and maybe not the project management features.  Curio Reader is a utility to view (and present) Curio documents.  Both are available on the Mac App Store—Reader is free; Express (today) is $39.99 ($10.00 off).

A few years ago Curio had a Pro version and at least one other product level.  Looks like a reversion to that feature/pricing model.

Thanks for this news, Paul. (I think your diagnosis is right.)

This is an interesting development. I guess George is trying to expand his market with a lower priced model. As far as I can tell, the only thing that separates regular Curio from Curio Express is that each document is just one Idea Space—it looks like it does include at least most of the task management functionality. The other difference would be what is imposed by sandboxing, since Express is only available through the App Store.

I can see how Express would be an inviting option for some. I just don’t know if $40 is low enough to attract them.

Thanks for the notification, Paul.

The Mac App Store (MAS) limitations are significant—at least for me because I regularly use Curio to do most of the things on this list that are not permitted with Curio Express

Pricing strategies, and whether to go MAS or not must be very difficult decisions for developers.  I know there is lots of blogging (mainly blathering) about these topics—got to be some of the harder decisions for a small business owner.
