Outlining in Mac Pages

I was working with a long document in LibreOffice that somehow got corrupted (and for which Navigator wasn’t working). Since I was using my son’s old Mac, I tried to open it in his Pages ‘09 (4.3) program. It worked, and to my surprise, there’s quite a useable outliner in the options. I gather that this option was removed in later versions. That seems a shame. Does anyone know if future versions plan to restore it?

I doubt if anyone knows (outside Apple of course). To the frustration of many Mac users, when the new version of Pages was launched about two years or so ago, a number of features were stripped out - in the interests of inter-operability with the iOS and iCloud versions I believe. I gave up on Pages at about that point, and went over to using some of the other Mac outliners and text editors that have started to proliferate. I’ve read that Apple have now begun to put features back in again, and imagine that this process may continue in order to keep Pages competitive, but I don’t have first-hand knowledge of this. There are users who still say the old version was better.
