I wrote to the developer, who responded quickly and helped me resolve the problem. Turns out I had a corrupted database of associations on my computer. Now I don’t and Outlinely opens its files fine. Sorry for the panic, but I didn’t want anyone to buy the app if this was not so easily fixed.

Thanks for this. $5 is a small price to pay to encourage work like this. Recently, I’ve started picking up an old MacBook for coffee shop computing, and this is just the kind of quick, non-wifi dependent app I was looking for. It actually feels a lot like Workflowy, but local.

I just downloaded the Outlinely trial, I like Workflowy a lot.

This one seems real nice for $5, I am more into the simple outliners as an easy way to jot down and begin organizing ideas, rather than creating and organizing large master plans.

Sorry, everybody, here’s the right place to comment on Outlinely. Yes, I agree it’s a very pleasant, ultra-simple alternative to huge apps like OmniOutliner. In fact, despite my enthusiasm for Tree, I’m finding I use Outlinely more, parked on one edge of my screen (using the great free menu-bar app ‘Arranger’: absolutely brilliant!).
