Listary Pro has been on bits a lots of time, and is again, today. In the thread “File Search” here, just today, this sale is mentioned.

I felt encouraged to start a new thread for it though, for some reasons:

It’s always “lifetime licence”, and I made the mistake, in the past, on several occasions, to NOT buy software under this scheme, and then buying it when “lifetime” was gone.

Listary Pro is one of those programs for very unorganized people, when I am a very organized person, so I never thought it advisable to buy it, in my case, but then, even very organized people are not that much organized at any single moment in their lifetime, too many inboxes and such, and even, here and there, some files or folders not straightened out enough, not enough time to live up to your own organization paradigm.

Listary Pro isn’t that good, really, and, as it stands, will not provide you a real project management tool - more about this subject with respect to Listary Pro could be found on the DC website when they had their latest bits offering some months ago -, but as said, as an additional tool (and if you don’t really rely upon it for your regular work), it comes really handy, and for under 10 bucks for its lifetime licence (up to now, but whoever knows?), it’s a steal.

I am aware that most people here already own Listary Pro, and I give those my congrats, I sometimes too much cling to the paradigm that your pc should only accomodate the strict minimum of tools, and then, in some instances, I would be happy to have some additional for a particular task, and which I do not have then.

As said, details for Listary Pro can be found on DC, but I’m finally buying now, and I would encourage you to do the same, as long as you get the “lifetime license” at this ridiculous price.

P.S.:

I, before Christian holidays, sometimes check for the original sites, in order to see if the developers do offer some 25 % or such off their regular prices. In view of software prices today, this might seem ridiculous, and also, in most instances, I don’t get anything this way. But then, it’s highly preferable to giving away your software at bits, for 50 p.c. off, and 50 p.c. of those 50 p.c. going to bits. But that’s a decision up to the respective developers, and if, yes, I’d prefer to pay 25 p.c. off at the developers’ site, instead of paying 50 % off at bits, just 25 p.c. (instead of 75 p.c.) going to the developer, I happily buy at bits whenever I cannot get 25 p.c. from the developer, direct.

P.S. 2:

I encountered LOTS of problems with Archivarius, would not have it for free; X1 is a very good problem but has its problems, too; dtSearch is outstanding and in a class of its own if very expensive; I trialled it several times, and once you will have bought it, all your search problems will be behind you. (I did not buy it yet either, I must say, that’s why I insist of my several trials of that program: its SO MUCH BETTER indeed than any of its “competitors”.)

I use File Locator Lite since File Locator Pro, well, searching in real time takes a long time, and the developer, if being “responsive” (yes), does not seem to understand that for special file formats, just SOME additional programming could make his program outstanding from the lot (and overcome its real-time search limitations, by that, too); especially, he declares “proprietary” file formats that in fact are not, as long as searching in them is the subject. So I never saw a reason to by the Pro version since the only REAL difference both make, is Pro’s ability to search distinctively for “is a word” (and not mixing parts of words up with such distinctive words).

As for DirectFolders, the developer is totally unresponsive and has seemingly stalled the development of his tool years ago - cannot prove this assertion, but fact is, bugs having been brought to his attention years ago, have never been addressed since; this is my own experience, and cf. bits comments.

As for “but it also could be that having become a Dopus user I end up remembering where my files are better.” - this is again fanboy behavior, as we know from “Dr. Andus”, since it’s a proven fact that ALL file managers are equal with respect to your physical folders… and yes, both X2 and DO are “better” with respect to “virtual folders”, but they both introduce a plethoria of problems with those, as any other file manager that tries to make available file clones in any so-called “easy” way. Anyway, it’s outrageous marketing speek to pretend DO does ANYTHING in order to help you to remember where you filed things, over its competitors: This is, alone, a function of your file naming, sorting, and so on.

Anyway, Listary Pro under 10 dollars is a steal under any circumstances, and you’ll be happy to have it, especially with its smart “Everywhere” integration, whenever your regular level of file organization will betray you - and yes, it’s under constant development, which today is an element of appreciation in desktop software you could easily qualify as “spectacular”, by comparison.

I forgot:

“010 Editor 25% off through September 2013”

“This makes a single user license $97.46 for commercial purposes and $37.46 for home/academic use.”

Is this reasonable, from a developers’ point of view? No, it is not: Offering a valid “home” licence for roughly a third of the “office” one, is inviting lots of people to buy the home licence, and then to use it within the office. This should be common sense. My advice to developers, do it 2/3, 60 p.c. being the absolute limit. With “home” prices beneath that level, you create unlicensed use of your program.
