You might consider adding Org-Mode to your database. Org-mode is a major mode of Emacs. Emacs is alive and well and has been for many years—the latest version is 24.

Don, many thanks for this initiative. The software listed might indeed be very diverse, but I found some very interesting programs I had never ran across before. I’m particularly grateful for the inclusion of cross-platform software (where ‘cross-platform’ includes Linux).
