Bumped into a interesting listing of PIMs - located on Kaboodle.  Forum regulars here would know alot of the ones listed, but I do like the layout of the page and the screen snapshots.

Some of the product links no longer work, but found a couple of interesting new finds for me….Particularly intersting to me was iChronos, which has a unique look and feel to it.  Doesn’t particularly meet my needs, but is an interesting product nonetheless…Only other mention of it here was in Chris Murtland’s extensive PIM list at http://www.outlinersoftware.com/messages/viewm/4179.

On a related note, it would be nice if a list such as Chris’ blog post was somewhere at the top of this site and not buried in a forum post.  Somewhere where we could subscribe via RSS to know when a new unlisted PIM was added and thereby jump over and check it out right away….Along with an area for registered forum members to provide their input on an entry.  Couple this with a forum crawler that listed all related blog posts for a PIM to the product listing, and I think this rich site would be even more useful than it already is!  Christmas wishing on my part, I guess…

Enjoy!

Thanks for that! There are even more relevant software lists on this user’s profile page:

I guess Pierre’s list could serve as a foundation for that (unfortunately it has no RSS feed):

Dr. Andus -

Thanks for reminding me of PPL’s list.  While the list is perhaps the most complete listing around, I guess was dreaming of a use case as described below (using the other post I recently made regarding KnowledgeWorkshop’s demise):

1)  Roving around the web checking up on PIMs, I notice that the KnowledgeWorkshop page says the product is no more.
2)  Wanting to inform my fellow OutlinerSofware regulars, I got to the OutlinerSoftware.com home page and select the (doesn’t exist now) PIM/Outliner Tracker page.
3)  Choosing not to browse the list, I instead type KnowledgeWorkshop in the search box and type-ahead functionality brings up KnowledgeWorkshop after I type several characters.
4)  I hit enter and the page displays a product overview (summary, current version, last udpate, etc - all stuff on PPL’s listing) and a related forum posting window.
5)  I note that the product status panel states it was last updated in 2010, and that there was never a full review done by a forum member.  I read through other forum posts on the product and then click the submit posting button where I enter the message I submitted regarding KnowledgeWorkshop.
6)  After submitting, I then click the RSS feed for KnowledgeWorkshop so that any product info or forum posts regarding it are surfaced to me automatically.
7)  I then update the release status on the product panel to “No Longer Available”.  As a registered forum member without a negative rating after 50 posts, the update is processed.

Guess my right brain is in overdrive today, but I wonder if it’s just me or if others would see any value in this site being able to function as I describe above…..I’m interested in any feedback….

This sounds good to me, I would certainly support this. And what revenue model did you have in mind? :)

I’d be willing to work for free.  :-)

Seriously, I fully support the ad-based model for this site, and regularly click on ads to the left of this page.

I may be naiive, but I suspect that an ability to research a specific PIM via pages where content is collated and click-through to forum posts would perhaps drive even more page hits than the current structure.

I fully disclose that I have no empirical data to support this, but rather a gut feel. The ability to subscribe to RSS updates to a specific PIM one is interested in monitoring (and the subsequent page hit to view the update) is why I state my position.

Worse comes to worse, count me in as one of the folks who would pay a subscription fee if he had to…..Let the flaming begin, but I find the content in this site that valuable…..
