The new version of OutWiker (http://jenyay.net/Outwiker/English). OutWiker is open source crossplatform (Windows and Linux) outliner. OutWiker’s main difference from the other similar programs is keeping the tree of notes in the form of directories on disk.

Changes in version 1.7:

* Added the ability to open the notes in separate tabs.
* The toolbar is divided into several floating toolbars.
* Saved and displayed date of the last changes in the page.
* Greatly accelerated parsing and coloring of wiki syntax (bacceleration from 2 to 10 times).
* Added interface to insert some elements of wiki syntax.
* Added ability to larger and smaller font on wiki pages.
* Added ability to force rebuilding HTML-code on the wiki notation.
* Fixes in page templates.
* The distribution for Linux adds vector and large icons.
* Changes in the appearance of the search page.
* Created the installler for Windows.
* Fixed a bug where thumbnails were not created to wiki pages if extensions image files was recorded in capital letters.
* Fixed a bug that did not keep the size of internal windows (tree notes, attachments, etc.)
* Fixed other bugs.
* Many small fixes and improvements in the interface

I like the development of Outwiker. I’m currently testing it in parallel with Keepnote, which is also cross platform (I work in Windows and GNU/Linux) and also keeps its files in a directory tree. Outwiker seems more responsive, and the wiki functionality (which I have not used much yet) is an added bonus.

Jenyay, have you considered the possibility of adding “spreadsheet-type” pages, using CSV files?

In the near future is unlikely, but will add to ToDo. Later, I want to add some features Outwiker organizers.

I remember evaluating this program awhile back and moving on after some buggy experiences. However, I’ve tested this latest version in Windows, Linux Mint 14, and Ubuntu 12.04 and it works very nicely. I especially like the three tabs for viewing Wiki Markup, Preview, and HTML code. (In fact, I wish ConnectedText had this ability to view and edit HTML+CSS code directly). Other comments: I found adding attachments straight forward, but I was dumbfounded at first why I couldn’t add a image/picture using a “Browse” dialog box. It seems that Outwiker treats pictures/images similarly to attachments—I (think)—I had to first attach a picture to the note and then insert it into the wiki area, which seems to be one step to many. Also, I would have liked some file attachment meta data other than just the file name, such as file type, size, date created/modified/uploaded.

Personal preferences aside, it’s nice to see such a promising cross-application wiki note-taking system.
Keep up the great work!
