infoqube disappointment and other mixed luck for Eccoers.

time for me to say what a disappointment Infoqube has been for me.  I hoped it would be a worthy successor to my beloved Ecco.  I was so hopeful and encouraged enough to send in the $50 contribution towards a license.

It’s pretty but klunky ... infested with glitches and slow performance.  Ecco is limited but fast.

The Infoqube interface is far from intuitive.

the most discouraging thing to me has been the lack of support and community.  The community is seems “moribund” - a word we’ve had fun with here.

I posted two questions in the forum that I thought were pretty good.

“auto-edit - keep horizontal position when use arrow key to move to item above/below?”
“auto-assign value to parent field when value is assigned to a child field?”

Response - CRICKETS!  Nothing.

There was a developer in Singapore who was also working on an Ecco Successor to be called “Gypsy Organizer”, and she was making good progress ... but suddenly the website went down and never returned.  Later I heard that she had to stop because of serious illness.

One very bright spot for us has been the efforts of Slangmgh in China.  He’s extended Ecco way beyond its former limits with his Ecco Extension, now up to version 4.3.6.7 ... and recently by some kind of magic, he’s even eliminated some of the limits on the numbers of information items that can be in a folder or file.  I think there is still a limit of 65K total items in a file which ... believe it or not ... is not really enough for me.

Although I have not posted in the IQ forum for a few years, whenever I had asked a question I received an immediate response from Pierre or one of his cohorts. After I read your post, I went back to the forum and saw that you had posted a question last month and it seemed to have been responded to reasonably quickly. Pierre contributes here from time to time so I assume he will respond to your criticism, which is at odds with my past experience.

Having said that, I have not been able to crack IQ although periodically I try again and then give up again, ascribing my surrender to low frustration tolerance.

Cheers
