XMind has announced its 2012 version with new and improved features. There’s still the free version; the plus and professional versions cost $79 and $129 respectively. The professional version is also available for a $79 per year subscription.

Yes, the good thing is that they offer a choice; I’m not a fan of Xmind but I appreciate their approach which is more flexible than others’:

“Subscription mode, which we support since 2008, keeps you updated with the latest software but costs yearly. While the new license mode allows you to use it in life-time but not free for major upgrades.”

I have very similar sentiments about Xmind. I have a free copy but I rarely use it. I prefer the minimalism of Freeplane, which for me is the Noteliner of the mindmapping world…
