InfoRecall is a pretty standard two-pane PIM that packed a lot of features. I think the price used to be $99. The problem was it was always very buggy. Anyway, I was just going through some old bookmarks and took a trip to the InfoRecall web site, where I saw they are now selling it for $5.99! Well, at least it doesn’t appear to be moribund.

I downloaded IR 15.3 portable and tried a couple of things in the trial version.  I found the following in the Hyperlinks information ‘Document”:

1.  Clicking on “Link to a file document” produces an error message that the file EPSMTL32.txt cannot be found.  I did a search on the entire drive.  It does not exist.

2.  Clicking on “Hyperlink to an Application” causes a calculator to appear.

Appears too buggy for me.

Also, it appears that one cannot drag and drop a link onto an IR “document” (right pane).  It causes IR to freeze.

Steve, thanks for the heads up. Prompted by your message I did a quick search for InfoStore which I remembered since similarly older days… It is no longer being sold, and the company is more involved in web hosting and with a product for tracking employees’ activities.

InfoRecall is a strange beast in terms of functionality mix. The time tracking and email gathering functions alone would be worth much more than the registration price—if they work properly.

It might as well have been my first software of this kind…back on Windows 3.1.

IIRC they posted a background story on how this software started. My feeling from that is that this software all stands on needs of one particular wealthy enterpreneur, financed by him and built to meet his needs. So as long as he will use it, it will stay :)
