Dr. Andus mentioned book stands. I can recommend the adjustable Jasmine book stand. It’s great and can hold very large textbooks.

For once, a tool for iOS discussed here which is also available for Android (ABBYY TextGrabber + Translator in Google Play)

Wow, that does look like the mother of all book stands! Couldn’t find it on Amazon UK though. On eBay it seems to ship from South Korea.
