Recently released - a free task management program, GTD compliant, with integrated mind mapping called MindOnTrack - http://mindontrack.com/ (can also be downloaded from Softpedia). They’re also planning a paid premium edition in the future. (This program was featured yesterday on Lifehacker.)

Currently it supports Windows and Linux, and a Mac version is in preparation.

Haven’t tried it yet, but it looks interesting, so I assume that other forum members might want to give it a spin,

I downloaded the program last night and have spent a little while with it.

So far it looks most interesting; the way outline and mind mapping capabilities are integrated brings to mind Inspiration.

MindOnTrack appears to have used XMind as its mind mapping component - a good choice.

The outline aspect is set up for Getting Things Done through a system of lists which are preprogrammed. It appears that what goes into a list shows up on the outline, and what’s input on the map can be seen on the outline.

Apart from the preprogrammed lists, one can add lists of their own choosing, so MindOnTrack need not be limited to GTD specifically or task management in general.

There’s provision for linking files, and a built-in web browser, though I have tried neither.

This program, in brief, seems very promising at first glance, offering a useful combination of outlining and mind mapping. It is too soon to say whether it will change how people work, but it may. Mind mapping programs have offered before the ability to see in outline form the contents of the map, or to go from outline input to map form, with Inspiration probably being the program which has most developed it. MindOnTrack has taken the next logical step, giving the outline and mind map equal importance. Marketing the program as a GTD task manager makes good sense because of the prominence of David Allen’s seemingly ubiquitous self-management system.
