Word Perfect Lightning

I discovered yesterday a little program associated with Word Perfect called Lightning. It’s sort of like One Note, but different.

Though it is free, Corel make it hard to find it and download it separately.

Eventually, after downloading a couple of versions of Lightning from third party sites, and having the program not work properly, I decided to download Word Perfect, assuming that the version of Lightning bundled with it would work.

I was right, and am now exploring the software. It is a place to collect notes, which have their own separate windows. One can also organize notes and lnks and documents in folders, which are part of the navigation window’s tree.

I’m writing this because I wonder if anyone here has experience with it.

The good news is if I like Lightning it remains free and mine forever, even if I don’t buy Word Perfect at the end of 30 days.

Daly,

It is weird that you asked this just now, as I downloaded and installed Lightning just yesterday! I’d tried it before, but was curious about how it may have evolved. I couldn’t find any way to download it from the Corel site, but was able to download from the download.net site. I’m wondering if I have the latest version. I’ve got 1.0.0.466 beta. Is that the same version you got with the full Corel WordPerfect Suite? If so, seems like this has been in beta forever.

My initial impression is that Lightning doesn’t offer a lot more—and somewhat less—than most of the other applications we discuss. It seems to me the biggest advantage is that the notes function is a very nimble little word processor. It also has a function for send notes to WordPerfect or Word, but that is a premium service you need to pay for—I don’t know how much, as it doesn’t say. Maybe it will once my trial period is up.

Through the help menu, I chose “WordPerfect Lightning Website” but that only took me to the forum for the entire WordPerfect Suite. A search there for references to Lightning didn’t turn up a lot of recent activity. I suspect this is not a product being very actively supported by Corel.

I own the full WP Suite, updated from time to time, and the version of WP Lightning is 1.0.0.521. I use it occasionally for simple note-taking when I work in WP - i.e. rather rarely nowadays.
Best!
