Trying to Trust Launchy

FWIW, I haven’t had any problems just dragging web content into Ultra Recall - if it’s a secure page, just selecting what you want on the page will let you capture it. Also copy from a web page in Firefox, then a Win+V will capture to UR without bringing it to the front.

Daly, another idea, which I haven’t tried - since you can now synchronize file folders in UR 3, you could probably use the Firefox ScrapBook extension and then just set up a synchronized item in UR that points to your ScrapBook data directory. You’d have to sync occasionally (Ctrl+F5), but that may be a suitable workaround if you just want to clip at will from Firefox.

I tend to just arrange my windows so that the UR tree is visible to the left behind my Firefox window. Then I can drag stuff over to it.

Jan,

Thanks for the tip about turning off keywords.  I don’t transfer too many web pages consecutively to have found the delay unacceptable.  Also, Launchy has worked perfectly for me in my system; so, it’s not a big deal for me to wait while things are imported in the background.

Thanks.

Chris, Jan, thanks for the tips.

I can not drag and drop at all.

Even within UR I am not able to get the program to store web pages properly.

Later, when I have more time to waster (sorry if I sound angry but today was already fully booked with real work) I will removed UR from my system and do a reinstall.

Daly,

Just curious - I wonder if you have the UR option checked to “use Mozilla Firefox as internal browser;” I wonder if something happened to the Mozilla ActiveX control with the latest Firefox update. I use Firefox as my normal browser, but have NOT set that option in UR, and I have never had a single instance of a failed web capture from Firefox to UR with thousands of pages captured.

From UR help:

“Use Mozilla/Firefox internal browser control: If checked, the Mozilla ActiveX Control will be used to host web pages in the internal browser.  If unchecked, Internet Explorer will be used in the internal browser.

Notes:

· The Mozilla ActiveX Control must be installed in order to use this option.

· We do not provide support for the Mozilla control, and using it might result in Ultra Recall becoming less stable or responsive. Also, some functionality, such as print/print preview and other browser options above, will not be available when using the Mozilla control as the browser.”

Of course, this doesn’t help if you aren’t using the Firefox option in UR - just thought I’d mention that option is not required to actually use external Firefox with UR.

Chris suggested some possible problems in UltraRecall saving pages from Firefox.  Here’s another:

Firefox’ s latest update, ver. 2.0.0.3, apparently has some problems.  As I posted a couple of days ago, it appears to conflict with NoteBox Disorganizer, causing an almost complete computer lockup.  Using GoBack, I restored ver. 2.0.0.2.  The problem then disappeared.  So… which version were you using?

Also, I’m a belt, suspenders, and safety pin man:  I always check.  Just this morning, MyBase failed twice to properly store a Web page.  However the third time was the proverbial charm: Pniceage stored perfectly.

By the way, NoteBox Disorganizer has a lot of nice features, but at my age, I think the learning curve is more than I’m willing to tackle.  I only played with it.

As I regularly tell my wife, computers are like children, they do not always behave properly.  (Of course, in the case of MS, they are always finding new ways to get into trouble.)
