Evernote 4 for Windows has been released. Here is company blog url, with announcement and download link:

I have just installed it, and not yet done anything with it. It appears as though there’s some cosmetic improvements, and EN says it is much faster.

My hope is that there would have been some new functionality in terms of using tags, and searching based on criteria established by two or more tags. This capability may be there, but I just do not know yet.

For Windows users who have felt thrown under the bus as EN developed cross-platform capability, often taking away from the pre-existing feature set to do so, this new release may be what we have been waiting for.

First take on the new Evernote v 4 for Windows:

It is very, very fast in showing documents. A real improvement.

One improvement I’d like to see, and that is an option for the thumbnail directory column. Right now, this vertical column, which is adjacent to the to the directory sidebar listing notebooks, tags, etc. allows one to show either thumbnails, or thumbnails and list. I would find it more convenient if it allowed me to simply show a list of documents, rather than having the list appear across the screen at the top, thus taking away space from the document window.

It’s much faster—and less of a memory hog than earlier versions. Aside from that, most of the changes seem to be minor and cosmetic.

As I pointed out today on the Evernote forum, EN 4, before it will install, demands that you uninstall version 2.x from your computer. This is unsettling news for those of us who still have a few files in the old format and still play around with the earlier version occasionally.
