I just noticed that there is a small update available for TAO, the excellent outliner for Mac. That prompted me to check out the home page where I learned that the application is now selling for just $10 U.S. Also, the developer has a product called NeO, but all it says on that page is “A successor to TAO, Coming Soon.” I’m not sure this is a good sign or not, but at least it suggests the possibility of continued development. (The fact that the web site seems very amateurish, does not fill me with a lot of confidence, either.)

$10 for the most full-featured traditional outliner currently available seems like a steal to me. It’s one of the few traditional outliners that does full cloning.

NeO sounds very promising. Thanks for the heads-up on that.

Yes, I too was surprised by the cheap price and bought a license a few weeks ago. It’s a powerful app, and in addition to the cloning, I especially like the robust saved search and filtering capabilities. I’m using ADM as my main outlining environment now, partly because my PC is portable whereas my Mac is not. I actually prefer the feel of writing in ADM, but I do miss the saved search power of TAO. Omni recently hinted that Version 4 will have saved searches but not cloning (although the latter remains on their agenda, apparently). Anyway, let’s hope Mr. Hamada (assuming he’s stilled associated with TAO) keeps up the good work.

Thanks Steve!

I hope that in NeO the developer retains all the fine features of TAO, whilst making the interface more user-friendly.
