While I want to spend the next several weeks polishing the forum, after that I will be jumping in to creating an online database of software that members can help maintain. I’ve thought of a few ideas, but please add whatever you think would be nice to have in a resource like this.

- application categories (calendar, tasks, web clipping, outlining, etc.)
- direct download link if available
- screenshots
- reviews/ratings
- links to other resources, reviews, etc.
- features matrix

I would prefer another framework:
“activity” categories: information searching, storing; notetaking; brainstorming; writing etc

rather: homepages

users’ screenshots

appropraite threats from our discussions

forums, Yahoo!/Google groups, blogs

templates, sample databases and documents

>- features matrix

pools (what software are you using? what is the best free/shareware/commercial tool for…, picks of the year, etc)

“looking for developer” - ideas and suggestion of new features or completely new programs

Chris, I think this is a great idea. I think that categorisation of applications according to use (e.g. brain storming, note taking, outlining, PIM ...) is important in such a database. It would be obvious to make such a database in outline format itself, maybe using OPML.

This suggestion is closely related to some discussions we had about a year ago, about the various kinds of software (“my set”, I think, was the topic of one of the relevant threads).

If you choose to go for this categorisation scheme, we could start out with some interesting, conceptual discussions here about which categories it should contain.

Peter.
